Hi Everyone, Just wanted to update you, Today is day 8 and still smoke free.... I am so grateful to you all. My dear friend you know who you are, you gave me that stern talking to and opened my eyes, well I want to thank U personally as if it wasn't for you this would have only been day 2... or maybe I wouldn't have quit.. as I find if I put things off its harder for me to do... Its getting less and less bothersome.. I don't have the shakes now, and the cravings are futher in between.. I keep myself busy when they do come on as they pass fast enough when U are not sitting there thinking about them... What makes me proud is my home is now smoke free, now when I do all the painting and cleaning I will get rid of that nasty smell and it will be gone forever. I swear by the patch.. I know I quit once before on the patch but then gave up out of stupidness, I was bored so I decided to have a cig, plus I was hanging with all my family and they all smoke, well now they can't smoke around me cuz of me having only the one lung.. so I know and I will make it this time, this time there is no turning back. To all of you who have picked ur day to quit, just know this can be done.. as someone said to me just change your way of thinking and keep urself busy doing something when the urge comes on and you will be amazed at how soon they pass... To those that have quit, CONGRADULATIONS... U like I have finally taken control of our lives, nicotine is not controlling us anymore. When I think of how I let a chemical run me and my life and ruin my health I could kick my own behind if I could reach it....lol...... Well I will keep U all informed .... Thx everyone for all U have done. Well guys I am all excited here..l Quit On Friday. Had a rough day on Sunday, but kept my hands and mind busy with my crafts... This morning the craving was there but I keep going and not look back..... it passes within a few minutes.. I wasnt to thank U all for the help as I wouldn't even have started until the 15th if it wasn't for you... I hope U are all doing fine.. to those that are just quitting, U can do it... someone said on here alot has to do with changing ur way of thinking, well I found that helped me alot.. soon as I get a craving, I am doing something that takes my mind completely off that... This does work, mind over matter... Now my home is smoke free, my car is smoke free... I didn't have much of a choice I had to quit due to health reasons.. I just want to say thx to all ur words of encouragement..... May God Bless U all, as U are all making a difference in someones life... Shyanne

Hi, Thx for the advice, I quit the last time using the patch, and I have just bought the patch again, I was going to set the 15th as my day to quit... But I am thinking Monday morning I will start my first patch... I was wondering just what would be the best way...... waiting and cuttng down till the 15th or starting Monday... What does everyone suggest.. Yes, My doctor told me if I don't quit he doesn't give me a couple of years... so I have no choice, but just want to go about it properly.. the last time I got a head start as I was in the hospital...... I welcome any suggestions... Thx, Shyanne :confuse:

Just want to say Hi, well here goes, I been to the doctors today and was told I have to quit. I have COPD, and a compressed lung, soes anyone know what that means. I am awaiting an appointment to see a specialist... I just sent my husband for the patch.....I quit once before for 53 days and being stupid I started again. I really am going to need support from U all, as I have to do this in order to be able to breath... I can't walk even to the bathroom without gasping my lungs are that bad, and I am only 51.. The damage I have done over the years from smoking has taken its toll. I had asthma all my life.. Can you tell me the best way to do ths, just quit right noe, or take time to prepare..... Thx, Shyanne

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I made it thru the first 26 hiurs gang... I had a few haaard times today but not as bad as I thought... Tho my doc gave me a mild sedative to help me relax for the first 5 days and the patch, I want to thank U all for ur support I wouldn't have started this right away, but what U all said made sense, and the thought that my one lung is collasped and I have phenumonia and COPD... Well it's quit now or I won't have to worry about quitting and U made me see that ... I know its hard but with friends like you I know I can get thru this.. I hope to be able to help others that need support also.. My husband is so proud of me.. He smoked 4 pkgs a day and woke up one moorning 18 years ago and said that was it and he never smoked again... I was a heavy smoker, right up till yesterday I myself was smoking a phg and a half a day... But I am using my mind to win this battle.. I won't let the cravings take over when they come I do my crafts or I cut licorice in 3 and use that till it passes... Well the next few days will also be the hardest.. Once I get passed this week I will be ok, as I was the last time I quit.. THX GUYSSSSSSSSSSSS you are all the best, I wouldn't have started last nite without you... May U all be blessed for helping me.... Shyanne

I can't thank U all for all the nice emails. well I put the patch on 2 1/2 hours ago, figured if I have to quit might as well get the hard part over with.... The first week is hars and then after that I am ok.. That is it was the last time.. I just warned my husband to be patient with me. I am going to go at this with all I have, I changed the date as I had the 15th as my stop date.. But I decided to move it up, but as the doctor told me if I have a slip to get right back on the horse and keep going. Last time I slipped and then I took it all the wrong way I felt like a failure and just kept smoking. I read the program and now have enough knowledge to get me thru with all ur support, I can do this. I really can't thank U all enough...Shyanne

Just want to say thanks to everyone who responded... Exspecially to Jaset, U reallu told me as it is and made me open my eyes. I cahnged my date from he 15th and I have been smoke free for 14 hours so far, thx to ur response. U opened my eyes, I also figured that no matter how long I put it off I am going to have to go thru the withdrawls, there's no getting away from it. So I said why wait. lets get this over with.... I am very very shakey this morning tho and its hard, But I will not let this get the best of me, as I know after one week I am on my way. It Took me one week the last time and I was fine. If I want to live and breath with this COPD I have no choice, I also have a compressed lung that may need to be operated on. So I want to start to get my lungs in shape before I have to face that. I willbe doing some hollering over he next few days for support, exspecially when I am having weak moments. Maybe I should get the Messenger for support for those moments. I think I will. please everyone add me the more support I have the better it will be..... Thx Shyanne

Shyanne, Let me introduse myself. My name is Jaset. Been smoke free for a few months. Had many problems because of smoking. You have COPD. Your problems are big ones, mine were to. A-fib, asthma chronic bronchitis were just a few of mine. Well, it seems to me that COPD is enough to quit cold turkey. COPD leads to other issues. So strap on your guns and just stop. But along the way you have to get your mind right. You have to realize that your problems are not small and that if you keep on going like you are, your issues will no longer be. Please, please sit down and think to yourself. Think of what you have to do to quit. Number 1) you have to change your whole life around. You must eliminate all the triger points to smoking. What ever you do now that involves a smoke, you have to stop. If you like a smoke with your coffee, then you have to eliminate the coffee. It wont be forever, but eliminate it for your quit. If you buy your smokes from a specific store, then dont go back in that store. You MUST stop what ever goes with your smoking. 2) You have to get tough, I mean very tough because as you know, you have a real fight on your hands and in order to win, you must get tough. You must not whine or moan because that will only make you feel sorry for yourself. You have to stay strong and alert! Very alert!! You must control the urges in the same way that they control you. When the urge comes, you must get angry at it becausse it is not your friend. It wants to kill you and you cant let it. When the urge comes, quickly reach for something that will take your mind off it. Mine was plain old gum. But, when the urge comes, thats when you have to get angry at it and you must tell yourself that the urge can not beat you. Soon the urge will get less and less until it will come and go in a split second. So, roll up your sleaves and get to work! STAY ALERT!!!
