Hi A1, Slumps are very very normal. Consider like walking through a mountain range. Up one side and down the other. But on average, you are always going up to the real summit. When you hit that low, do what all good mountaineers do and setup a base camp and regain your energy for the next beautiful climb. A1 - I feel for you - If I was close enough - i'd give you a big hug. Hey, don't forget to take care of yourself, too. OK? Taking care of sick kids is very very hard - even if you feel like you're not doing the best job of it. I don't do welll with other folk's illness either - even my kids' and I used to smoke through it as well - I felt like smoking calmed my stomach down and certainly felt like it eased my anxiety. For a while after i quit, i was tkaing pills for anxiety as well. Please don't be down on yourself. it will all even out in the end. I was to the point of questioning if it would be worht it to become adicted to a pill that calmed me down, or if I should continue to fight. I was tired of fighting. Tired of not feeling like I was capable of rational thought - tired of being afraid of everything. Guess what? it didn't last forever. I kept looking and kept on my doctors and found a hormonal problem that once corected, fixed all of it. You will be alright. This won't last forever, and things will finally even out for you. You have set out on a journey that is going to leed to nothing but good things and heeling for you. You can't hide behind a smoke screen anymore, so you have no options but to keep moving foreward, and I guarantee that you're going to find ballance and some comfort when you get there. A1 - I am sorry you are struggling so much. This really is a tough battle we all are fighting! I can really appreciate what you're going through - we've got a lot in common. Some advice (take it or leave it!): (1) Are you connected with a good psychiatrist for medication management? If not - get connected! The meds you mentioned (xanax & klonipin)are "emergency" meds - they provide immediate results but have short half-lives which means they wear off quickly and put you in a sort of withdrawal. You might want to consider a longer-acting med that you take daily. They are smoother in managing your symptoms & less addictive. (2) YES YES YES - Call your EAP and get connected with a therapist! There is absolutely no downside to it! I know this from personal experience. A1 I feel for you and I always check on you when I can get here. I haven't been posting lately because I've been trying to ride the rollercoaster on my own and also because my internet availability is limited. I was also rolling along pretty well and along came some stressors, illness, financial issues, etc. that brought my spirits way down and along came the nico-demon with his claws out. It is frustrating that this far along the strength of the addiction can come knocking as loudly as it still does sometimes. I also feel as though something must be wrong with me at times. I also take meds occasionally for OCD and anxiety so I can relate somewhat to your situation. But I believe we are all wired uniquely and some of us simply cannot turn the positive attitude on just by saying so to ourselves. I will try to stay in touch the next few days and send good wishes your way. Hi Anxioux and OMG you are so NOT a sissy. I've heard that quitting smoking cigarettes is as hard as kicking a heroin addiction. I'm not sure on that and the Health Experts on this site can let me know if I'm wrong about that. I am using an inhaler and thought I was going to be able to get through yesterday without using it. But when I got home from work, the drama started so out came the inhaler. I was disappointed that I had to use it but that's what I have it for and tomorrow is another day. Hang in there girl. P.S.
