Hi - 4 days and counting

Thanks for all the feedback. Going strong on day 5. I am so excited by my quit. My sense of smell is returning, and my how refreshing that is, at least most of the time. I live in Charlotte, NC, and while we are not the pollution capital of the sout, we definitely have our moments and areas. To be honest though, the grand grip of the nicodemon tries to lure me at every moment. I have found, stop, take a deep breath, and recommiting to the quit quickly dissolves these urges. Last night, I actually had a period of about one or two hours without an urge. To CMJ77: Keep strong with Going Cold Turkey. I feel that is overall the best method. The number one thing is conviction. A steadfast goal that can not be disuaded regardless of the circumstances, in this case, not smoking. If one has conviction, then everything else will fall into place. On top of that, remember, all smoking really is... it is the act of breathing dirty air (with a kick of addiction)and in fact paying heavily for that right. How many of you have burnt clothes, car seats, furniture, etc.? Lastly....With Each breath, I feel stronger. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 164 Amount Saved: $25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 7 Seconds: 15

Day four and utterly focused on not smoking. It sound so easy, to quit something by doing nothing, but after several failed attempts to quit, I feel more empowered than ever to do nothing, to not simply quit smoking but rather to become a non-smoker again. As you can tell, I am still in that stage were clear lucid thoughts are rather distant and intangible. I just remind myself, one second, one minute, one hour, one day, focus on this and the cravings and distortions will eventually disappear. n'est-ce past My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 138 Amount Saved: $20 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 12 Mins: 44 Seconds: 10

(From above Post) Forgot to mention that I am going at it cold turkey style. Despite how awful I think I feel, I can say that I feel stronger with each passing moment. I was smoking on thanksgiving when I suddenly felt the impact of 12 years of heavy smoking. I felt as if my lungs were but burnt refuse, and I could literally taste it. So I tossed my cigarettes out the car window and I haven't looked back. Prior to this I have tried to quit several times. I have tried making a plan, I have tried nicotine replacement, and I have tried intake reduction. Overall, I feel (especially after speaking to other quitters)that you just have to quit. And this comes from thinking and deliberation, that leads one to realize the absurdity of smoking and the slow suicide that accompanies it. I can say that it is so nice to breath with out the feeling of fluid in my lungs or the urge to hack a hack cough following. Hi, We seem to have a lot in common! I also smoked for 12 years and I'm currently on day 9 of going at it cold turkey. I wish I had the resolve I had on day 4 today. Man, it sucks. Today was a hard day for some reason. I wanted a cigarette pretty much every second while I was at work and then I had to stay late and I really felt like screaming. Anyway, good for you. I'll keep an eye on your quit. It makes me feel better that someone is going cold turkey right now and I know I'm not miserable all alone :). Hi ktown, Well you certainly have got a good handle on this quitting! Congratulations on 4 days and on going Cold Turkey! (I was a warm chicken myself and used every aid imaginable.) Anyway, 'they' say the worst days are behind you now....'they' say the nicotine has almost gone from your body by now!!! I say, "Hang in there my friend and do what you are doing...so far it is working. 'They' may have underestimated the days you may yet have to come, but I doubt that your determinaton has been underestimated
I tossed my cigarettes out the car window and I haven't looked back.
That is what you have....great forward thinking and guts to go on....this will win you Freedom! NEVER LOOK BACK, THE FUTURE IS AHEAD!!!
