Just How Many Cancer Sticks Did You Use to Smoke Each Day

Hi sweeties, I used to smoke around 35 a day for 20 years or so, then I cut out smoking in the car, in the house, so I went down to 16 a day for about 10 years and now N.O.PE. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 747 Amount Saved: $196 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 13 Mins: 43 Seconds: 22

I set mine to average as I would average 25 a day. I have though smoked 60 a day... but that wasnt usual. I could smoke 40 a day easily, but I work full time so that wasnt average. On a weekend day when i could easily smoke all day and all night with nobody stopping me, I would smoke anything from 30 - 60. HI all, i smoked close to 30 years, a pack a day, sometimes more. I only tried to quit a few times before this try. In the past i tried gum, patch, but never made it, my brain wouldnt let go of my crutch. This time i searched and gathered information from where ever i could, knowledge is power its been said many times here. I joined SSC and asked for help, and its the best thing i ever did, I went cold turkey this quit, NO... it wasnt easy but i am doing so much better than the early days... You know in the past when ever i thought of quitting i got really turned off and scared, because the first sentense would say (ITS REALLY HARD) I think it should say, YOU CAN BEAT THIS ADDICTION, EVEN THOUGH IT MAY BE DIFFICULT AT TIMES, heres cheers to all our beautiful quits.. jeanigirl My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 722 Amount Saved: $261.25 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 21 Mins: 14 Seconds: 32

Are you kidding????????????? I never bought a pack at a time. I bought my smokes by the carton(s) only!!! I get paid the 1st and 15th. Each payday I bought 4-5 cartons of smokes. I kept a couple of hidden packs in my car and home and rotated them---so I would NEVER run out!!! If I got down to 2 or 3 packs, I went into a panic and made a run to town! I don't care what I had to sacrifice (and thank God it never got to that financially) but my smoking came FIRST!!! My husband, who has quit with me, was much more dignified than I. If he ran out of his brand, he would go without until he got some menthol. ME? I'd smoke rabbit tobacco rolled in dried leaves if I had to. (You southerners know where I'm coming from...) Anywho...I am rather curious about the ages of those of us that were truly dedicated to the "cause" for so many years and had worked our way up to more than 2 packs a day? I am 46 and started smoking at 12. BOO-HOO :( You would think I would NEVER smoke. I worked tobacco in my youth. Tying and hanging in the barn; smoking barns; Curing and selling.....You cannot IMAGINE how NASTY tobacco is and the process it goes through. When we would strip the tobacco here in Tennessee, it would take WEEKS to get the sticky green (at that point) tar off our bodies. Not to mention the animals and rodents that take to the barn during the hanging and curing. That is before it goes to market and the chemical process starts! I won't gross you anymore...I hate that I allowed myself to be taken by a PLANT--it's like "Little House of Horrors" all over again! LOL :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 70 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,544 Amount Saved: $560 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 6 Mins: 59 Seconds: 15

My norm was 60 a day! Three packs was usual, and sometimes more... I was pretty much a chain smoker. And now I really feel it! I had smoked for 34 years and I would say the last ten were at about the 3 pack a day mark. Isn't that sad? :(

I also smoked 2 to 3 packs a day, depending on what I was doing that day. I think I smoked AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! It shows how progressive the addiction is because the ones who smoked the longest (I smoked 35 years) smoked the most. i think everyone would get there eventually given time. I smoked 1 to 2 packs a day, depending on what I was doing that day. I started off my quit with patches. I got totally disgusted with the nicotine still being in my body and ripped em' off. Went cold turkey and have been fine ever since the 2nd to 3rd without the patch on. Mentally the first 3 weeks were hard because I was scared. Once I gave the fear the ol' heave-ho, I've been fine mentally as well. I wish I had quit a lot sooner. It is not as bad as I thought it would be. I am now at the point of growing and learning on how to deal with emotions without a smoke. I've been working on triggers from the very beginning. Those were not hard for me. Just get busy doing something new making non smoking memories. But learning new skills to cope with emotions ... well it is not hard to learn the new skills, but the feelings can be painful at times and it feels weird to feel sad or to cry and stuff. But I am working on it. I am also working on exercise, relaxation and diet. This part is enjoyable I just have to stay committed on a more consistent basis.
