Hey Misty... Well, it's 5 pounds that you can lose once you have the quit under control.. Don't try to control too many things at once or you will burn out.. I have managed to keep my weight steady, thankfully, but I know for a fact that's only cause I am snacking on Popcorn and sunflower seeds.... Will weigh in with you next tuesday if you like... Keep you company.. Keep it up Krissie

You know, I know that this is going to seem like i'm off my rocker to many of you, and I know that quite a few of you already thought I was off my rocker, but I do hope that some of ya can take what i have to say and feel a little better about yourselves. I am on Weight Watchers, and i am overweight. I have diabetes that was caused by genetics mostly, but also years of abusing my body with fast food, sugar, and smoking... combined with the fact that i've birthed five babies, and that's very hard on a body - especially when it's not really overly healthy, and diabetic to begin with. I struggled for a very very long time with "I'll go back to weight watchers and loose some weight before I quit smoking." ... "I'll quit smoking first, and then loose the weight." ..."Now that i've lost some weight, I don't want to gain it again by quitting smoking." Blah, blah, blah, blah. I read somewhere that you'd have to gain a hundred pounds to damage your body as much as your smoking was damaging it. Any of you gain a hundred pounds yet? For the 9 months that we're pregnant, we're expected to gain at least 28-33 pounds, and we're OK with that, because we'll loose it after baby is born. Or, maybe not.. but who cares really? look at the beautiful baby we've made. I sure hope some of you can see where i'm going with this. You're also expected to gain some weight when you quit smoking. And who cares really? look at the beautiful baby we've made. Every time you inhale nicotine, you're liver does it's "fight or flight" panic thing and releases sugar into your blood stream, which never gets burnt, so it collects around your arteries in the form of cholesterol (and all this time, you thought it was the eggs doing it.) When the sugar gets released into your blood, you loose your hunger pains and are literally feeding yourself with a cigarette. Mmmmmmm *eyebrow waggle* That fight or flight also speeds up your metabolism. So, yeah.. you're going to gain some weight - even if you don't change your diet at all. You know, i don't believe in excuses to eat utter crap, and/or abuse your body, and I'm not advocating that at all, but you know, some comfort food when you're in pain with withdrawals goes a long ways towards feeling better. Chocolate helps

LOL.. I'm really not worried about it. I'm celebrating it! It'll come back off later, and i'll have better lung capacity for dancing, and not oly that.. imagine all of the renewed confidence i'll have. I have purpossfully not been counting anything because i've had the worste withdrawal symptoms you could imagine.. I'm just getting through this, and once I feel more confident.. i'll start counting again, and the weight will come off. Well, i gained 5 pounds last week. I'm not panicked about it at all. i was a little bit at first, but like my WW leader said "Sometimes our accomplisments don't show on the scale." If I were sitll smoking,a nd not following the plan and eating like I have been.. i would have expected a 5 pound gain anyhow, so I still feel in control of it... if that makes sense? Hey MistyMoon, Great post, I have opted to stay away from the scale for a while because I am very anal about my weight. I have always worked out and been completely consumed by what I weigh. I have always used the weight thing before as an EXCUSE. So to stay strong with this quit I have decided to not weigh for a while and just be good to my quit. I am trying to watch what I eat but I don't have near the will power right now as I did before...well actually I used a cigarette before and not will power. Some days are really bad and I feel like I have gained 20 pounds, no I haven't but this too is a mental thing. You are right, take one thing at a time and quitting smoking has PRIORITY right now. Congrats on your 2 weeks, you are doing awesome. After I got a better handle on my quit though, I didn't want to substitute one bad habit (over eating) for another bad habit (smoking). So now I am concentrating on exercise, not just to lose weight, but as a lifestyle. It helps with stress as well. And I am also learning to eat for fuel and not for comfort. It is not always an easy thing to do ... but it helps with my quit as well. I used smokes for comfort. I do not want to replace food with smoking. At some point in my life I have to learn to rely on myself for comfort and not smoking, or eating or some other habit that could end up being abused and becoming unhealthy. That being said, I didn't mind gaining a few pounds in the beginning either. I ate like crazy the first month. It helped. And after everything started tasting and smelling so much better ... forget about ... I wanted seconds. But if I could go back and do it over ... I would not have gone so crazy in the beginning with all the candy and what not. I gained pounds that I wish I had not gained. I won't return to smoking because of those pounds though. I know I'll lose them. I agree with amethyst_isis. In the beginning, I think most of us gain some weight. Once you get more settled into your quit, you can concentrate on taking the weight off. Until then do not let it get to you. Many people have relapsed on their quit because of weight gain. Don't fall into that trap. Keep on keeping that quit. You're doing great!
