A little discouraged

13 years ago 0 71 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Congrats on the 5 days!
The thing I remember noticing the most at first was.  I could taste the tar and nicotine on my teeth.  I brushed and flossed frequently.  I was so happy when I got my teeth cleaned and no longer had that taste.  Then I started noticing how things smelled. I went on a cleaning binge to get rid of the smoky smells from my belongings.  Gradually there were new things.  Refer to the list of the benefits of quitting frequently.  Even if you can't feel it take comfort in the fact that your body is healing and will continue to heal the further you walk away from Nicodemon!

Hey hopeful don't be discouraged because you don't feel the benefits of not smoking yet. I know one thing for sure you do smell a lot better.  Congratulations on your quit you will not regret it. Just keep saying nope....

Hopeful, it took a couple weeks for me to start smelling more.  But I did notice I had more energy.  I had smoked 2 packs a day for 20 years.  It took about a month for me to really start seeing changes.  By then I loved all the positive benefits, and I never looked back!  Give it time, don't expect everything to change over night.  It takes time for your body to adjust to the new smokefree you!  Take it one day at a time!  And don't forget to reward yourself with little guilty pleasures!

Hi Hopefulbutscared,

You are doing great.  It is normal to miss cigarettes, keep trying to replace smoking with other relaxing and fun activities and behaviours.

Individual notice benefits at different rates and can vary greatly depending on the individual and even the individual quit.  Know that you will experience these benefits soon.  For a complete list of what benefits you can look forward to soon and a typical time range of when you will experience them check out the Benefits of Quitting in the Education section.

Members, what benefits did you notice early on in your quit? Which was your favourite?

So its day 5 of Hell week. Overall, I think I am doing pretty well, alot better than I thought I would be doing! The cravings suck but they are nothing I cant get past. Right now I just miss cigarettes. Also, I am a little discouraged because I am not feeling the benefits that I thought I would be feeling like breathing better being able to smell more....ect. May be I am expecting too much too soon.
I want to fast forward to the part of my life where I am not going through withdraw, and I can get through the day without wanting a cigarette.

My Mileage:

My Quit Date: 7/31/2010
Smoke-Free Days: 5
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 250
Amount Saved: $55.00
Life Gained:
Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 57 Seconds: 47
