Thank you for your kindness...I am very glad that you and the others are here, had it not been for this site and all the help I received, there is little doubt that I would still be smoking...

Thank you for your kind comments...You are doing a great thing for yourself, although, I know it may seem difficult at times.  When I first began I drank a great deal of cold water.  I travel all of the time, but I was never without a bottle.  There is something about drinking water that helps stop the worst of craves.  It really does work and is probably very good for you as well.  The other thing I did (and this will probably sound crazy) was to carry around a stop watch.  As soon as my mind began to think it was time for a cigarette, I would start the watch.  What I found was that the craves rarely lasted more than a few moments.  However, if you where to ask me how long they lasted (without the stop watch) I would have sworn they went on all day long.  For some reason if you do not lite up, the body stops insisting that you do.

A great deal of quitting has to do with perception and altering our mind set around the need for cigarettes.  It does take practice, but with time and a great deal of determination, you can do it.  Hang in there, what you are doing is very valuable.  For me it was like getting a second chance and you know how rarely those come around in this life...

You remind me a great deal of my friend moss...His quit was alot like mine and we both traveled through a lot of the same stuff...

Keep on working through this...

Thank you for your kind words...Yes I found the same to be true.  When we start the task with the idea of lack as the central theme, we tend to remain in a place of loss.  We feel deprived...something is missing and we want it back.  But if we can hang on to the idea that cessation is a way of gaining something (how about a better shot at good health for one), our outlook changes and we work toward grabbing the brass ring as we ride the addiction merry-go-round...A great deal of cessation is in the mind, and we have to work with ourselves on a daily basis to teach our selves new ways...That can be difficult, because quitting for me was not about NOT doing something, it was all about doing things and responding to events in a different way...In any case you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself, please do keep looking forward toward the day when smoking becomes a distant memory...

Yes I understand.  For some reason each of us choose smoking and then once addicted to its physical effects, continued the self-destructive behavior as a way of comforting ourselves.  But for me it was a false comfort, I was using it to deal with my passing emotional states, instead of dealing with me as I am.  Once I figured that out, it became easier for me to find other ways of going that do not include smoking.  It is almost as if I was choose to destroy the body for fear of experiencing the soul.  It is kind of like throwing away a perfectly good container simpy because its contents have gone off.  It might be a better idea to get rid of the spoiled substance, clean the container and refill it with something new.

In any case, keep up the good work that you have done for yoursef...You are making real progress and should be very proud of the accomplishment...

Thank you for remembering...Every now and again I do go  waltzing  with the moon.  I am much better now, but I do hate going there...In any case, I am so glad to see that you are doing so well.  This has not been easy for you, but you have done it and that says it all.  Looks as if you are already on your second trip around the sun.
