Utterly crabby tonight

17 years ago 0 135 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
serenity, just make you sure you apologize to your daughter and explain to her that it is hard for you right now.. Im am 10000% sure she would rather have a mom who is going to be "crabby" for a few weeks then a mom who smokes.. So far I've been able to stop myself from blowing up with my children, like someone suggested count to 3.. I just pause before I know Im gonna blow my top, take a deep breath then start.. I agree with Windy, I step outside and take deep breaths and try to regroup. I must admit, still blow once in awhile. Hi serenity - Fraid most of us have had moments where we lost our cool and regretted it during our quit. When we smoked, we would step outside and puff when we were angry...Why not do the same thing without the cigarette?? Step outside, take afew deep breaths and then deal with whatever is happening. All the best... Serenity, These moods/aggressive behaviours will not last forever. You will get over this phase of the quit, too. Don't get too frightened about it. Exercise helped me a great deal when I turned into a monster at the start of the quit - seems to get rid of the excess energy. If you feel yourself about to blow, try and remove yourself from the situation, deep breaths, etc. But don't forget - this is not forever!! and I took it out on my lovely daughter. Feel like a low life nwo. I NEVER shout at my kids (something else I've used the fags for???!). When you feel you're about to blow, anybody got tips for defusing fast? serenity (NOT!) Serenity2, see "Coping with Cravings" forum. I just bumped the "Smokers Serenity Prayer" for you... Hope this helps! Memorize the serenity prayer and recite it before acting on something that is pi$$ing you off. I have been chomping on gum, sunflower seeds, ice, steering wheels, etc.... so hard that on the 29th I have to go for a crown on one of my teeth. (This is the second crown since I quit!) I am slightly orally fixated! Do whatever it takes to quit... Just remember we are often harsher with those we love...go back after the storm passes and make ammends. Serenity2, It happens. Don't be too hard on yourself. You're learning how to cope without cigarettes and that isn't easy. Some members have found it helpful to count to three before responding when in confrontation. Windy's suggestion is also another great strategy.
