depression

ktleighdt I know exactly what your talking about. THat hoplessness is the worst thing EVER. WHen I decided to quit this time, it was kinda a spur of the moment thing, I had planned to try to quit again, just not this soon. My reason was because an olf friend passed, (though we haden't seen each other in over 10 yrs) but she died of cancer and it seemed very stupid to be taking that chance with cigarettes. Anyway I had that working against me, and the fact that I've got a history of depression, I knew I was in for a time. It's been rough, but luckily for me I have that great reason to quit or I don't think I could have made it. I have just recently started to feel a little better, and at times, other than the general sadness I feel for my friend the depression is actually better than it was before I started my quit. So what I saying kt, is it does get better. Heya Kat, I sat in my Drs office sunglasses on tears streaming down my face reason why? I dont know, i was so depressed and i didnt know how to pull myself out of it. There was nothing he could do, it was awful, i had to ride it out. I can only put it down to being forced to deal with emotions that i would usually smoke away. I know how you are feeling but hang in tight coz it will pass. Sending you a big hug, its going to be ok. PrincessC :) x

Not alone, at all. I bet there is not an emotion expressed on here that hasn't been expressed previously. Depression, the 'blues', the 'blahs', sad, down and out, etc...is a pretty common one. Sending hugs and well wishes your way!

wow. I never thought I would feel this depressed. It has hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday and today. I am fine in the AM and by the afternoon i just sit in my office and tears run down my face. It could have something to do with the anniversary of 9/11 yesterday and being a witness to it five years ago. I thought I would be better today(9/12) but i am still feeling really hopeless. Its making me fight with my b/f (who also quit but he is on the patch..i did it cold turkey). I will NOT smoke but this has got to be the worst withdrawal symptom I have ever experienced. Thanks for letting me vent and letting me know that I am not alone. Hi all, for the last two days I have just felt sort of depressed. I am sure it will pass but it is so hard to shake. I have just finished hell week and this week almost feels worse! I am just about to get ready for work and really have to focus on changing my attitude or else it will just be a painful shift. It'll take some effort but I will do this. kat My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 215 Amount Saved: $50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 3 Seconds: 36

Kat, this depressed feeling is absolutely normal. I personally believe that it is a chemical reaction to the 4,000+ poisons that are leaving our bodies when we quit. Days 10 and 11 were my worst. Day 12 was like a whole new life for me. It will pass as the Princess says; in the meantime, be gentle with yourself and patient, too. Kat, Some members have advised they go through these type of feelings when they first quit. In fact you have not lost anything or anyone, you have gained your life back and gotten rid of the evil that is not your friend. Smoking can often mask illness', so take the time to check with your doctor to rule out depression or anything medical. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
