Good stuff Sparky, Sometime he gives us strength to fight the fight. I am curious though how was the car ride? I am going to see my rents next week. I will be in a car for 5hrs. Just thinking about it makes me shake. Good for you. Keep fighting, stay strong, and ask of the higher power anything you lack. He can and will help restore us to sanity. Grace

Sparky, Just an old time friend of his. I actully have not visited with him for a while. My hubby is a good frind though. I love what he did. And all the princapal that he came up with. Anyway all that stuff helps with my quit. We all need support when we try to break an addiction. That was my biggest mistake my first quit. I had no support, and I had forgotten what I learned from Bill W. Grace

Good for you Sparky, glad to hear you were able to turn it over to your H.P. I have an upcoming trip that I am preparing myself for, also involves casinos - they seem to be a huge trigger don't they?! Am glad to read that you made it through without smoking, it inspires me to quit worrying about the temptations & get back into doing the footwork & leaving the results up to a higher power. (Also am an active & long time friend of BW so should know better, ha,ha!! Yeah, right . . . progress not perfection) Ericon My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 474 Amount Saved: $94.25 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 12 Mins: 34 Seconds: 27

I had to laugh when I read your reaction to "addict". Yep, I can relate. Used the program in my prior quits but never had anyone (who was going thru the same withdrawel) to talk to while I was quitting. The 'one ex-smoker relating to another' seems to be doing for me what I hadn't had before. Also the information here at SSC regarding what my body went thru during detox helped me immensely. Oh yeah, and journaling (which I hate doing ) seems to be helping a great deal. Figures, huh - - ;) Thx for sharing today Sparky. Way to go Sparky - way to go. I found it hard to resist also, my subconcious worked over time during those moments fighting off the "junkie" thoughts. Am proud of you :) PrincessC :) x

Yesterday I went out of town to have breakfast with some "old" friends(hundred mile drive.) That went well, but when I left them to come home there are couple casinos on the way home. I stopped at them. The monster was alive and well, just waiting for me. I knew if I stopped I would have to deal with him, but I didn't think it was going to be a royal fight. Anyway when I left in the morning I ask for help from my higher power asking him to remove all temptaions and desires to smoke. In the casinos I wanted a cig so bad, but just could not ask for one or find a descent butt. Know matter how hard I tried to find a good reason to smoke the block wall was put up. I knew that the day would be hard as it has been day 8,9, and 10 have always been struggle for me. Anyway I did not smoke. I wish I could say I fought a good fight and won, but I know better. It was my higher power fighting the monster with all his of might. My day thas been a good one so far. Got up this morning had a nice breakfast and went for a 3 mile walk. Breathing is sooooo much better. Everyone have a great day!!! Grace, the car ride was not to bad. I had water and some candy with me. Also, from the past I have a straw cut down to the size of a cig. Just breathing air in from the straw helps. But if I caught myself thinking about cigs I would tell the thoughts to go away ;) and start to think about something else. Grace are you a frined of Bill W? Just wondering. Hope the car ride goes well for you. Ericon, thanks. It is kinda easy to pick us out of crowd, huh? I have tried to apply the principles to my stop smoking, but have found it hard. The word addict is hard for me, but I am just that. I had someone tell me that about a year ago and it just made me mad. But this time I pulling out all the stops. I use the word cig in all my daily readings and check here often. I am getting honest with those around me. When I feel good, I let them know and when it is getting hard I tell them. I do not want to lose this quit. I am powerless over everything!!!!! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 105 Amount Saved: $30 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 9 Mins: 49 Seconds: 4
