Oh Blue Cloud, How can Anyone forget the Holidays, How You use to have a house full of company, and sit around and Smoke, Smoke, Smoke those cigerettes, I was so addicted those things, to this day am wondering how I ever quit after 40 years., guess the word is Determination and Movitation to overcome the belief You have had in Your addiction., I more or less quit, because Someone or Everyone said to me on this website,!!! ''If I can Do It, You Can Do It,''' So after that I never looked back, I'm glad You have a smoke free household, my Wife still smokes, and that is Her priveldge, after all, I smoked up the house for 40 years, it's hard for me to tell Her to Quit, Have a great Holiday weekend, Smokless In Oklahoma :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/10/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1637 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 49,110 Amount Saved: $7,006.36 Life Gained: Days: 382 Hrs: 19 Mins: 13 Seconds: 8

Hi Blue Cloud, Your doing great!!!! Martha's right: 'Your example speaks volumes'. There's not much you could say to relatives that are still smoking. We all know that when we quit, we need to do it for ourselves. If we look at the other side of the coin....being around smoking relatives is not always easy for us. I just arrived from a baby shower and some relative of mine we're smoking outside. I could see them and i got a little craving to join them...but i did'nt. Why? Because i believe in myself and in my quit. So all this to tell you that we don't have control over anybody but ourselves. Continue to be strong...believe me you are. Your doing great and i am VERY proud of you :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 62 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 620 Amount Saved: $248.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 12 Mins: 20 Seconds: 44

Well, Sue, be fair now. John was also of the mind to drag you out on the balcony! Hey BC, have a blast, knock those old triggers down one by one, then it is done. John was of the mind to face them head on, so he actually had us in a 90% smoke filled raw bar at the beach on day 10 of our quit. I was in tears and he was laughing at me. I hated it. BUT we got them out of the way, rest areas, restaurants, bars, cars, all those places you went to smoke - we didn't, next time we went, we didn't even notice that we didn't anymore if that makes sense. Bring some weapons with you, coping skills, stuff like that and most of all have a great time. blue cloud, First - congrats on nearly TWO MONTHS! That is awesome. I'm not quite sure what you mean about relatives and addictions but if you mean other smoking family members, all I can say is tread lightly. Your example speaks volumes and the fact that you have pushed through for this long is more than any words can say. If others are threatened by that, and sometimes smokers do or say hurtful things when they are, just remember how you felt as a smoker. The "Golden Rule" will open a lot of doors. Don't forget to celebrate those beautiful, smoke free 60 Days! Blue cloud, Time to assert yourself. There is no way around it. Explain it kindly to your guests explaining to them that you've quit and perhaps set up an area outside with chairs and ashtrays for your smoking acquaintances. Let us know how it goes. Keep strong. You can do this Blue Cloud. I love what you said about this being a chance to apply all that you've learned! That's such a positive, confident, "happy quit" way to look at it! Just keep up that attitude, know that we are all there holding you up & remember how far you have come, & you'll be so proud of yourself at the end of the weekend! As far as people you love & addiction goes, unfortunately all we can do is keep loving them. They must come to their own realization as we came to ours. When they do, we can be there for them. Until they do, we can be there for them. I love the Serenity Prayer, too, it is very calming & inspirational. Here it is: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen. Blue Cloud we can do this. We can make it though any old holiday with out smoking. That monster need to take a flying leap, got it. Kelly is talking about the Serenity Prayer. Do a search on it. It is a wonderful and powerful prayer. Say it slowy and reflect on it. It has all the answers you need. I use it all the time. The holiday is just a day off work, just another smoke free day. Think about this do you really want Phil to come after you? No, I didn't thinks so. Be kind to yourself and be smoke free this week-end. I will checking here for you :p Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 123 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,230 Amount Saved: $369.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 15 Mins: 2 Seconds: 0

There's a prayer kinda goes along with what Phil is saying (I love your posts, Phil) has to do with serenity, courage and wisdom...usually used in a totally different forum for addiction but very liberating if you think about it.
