So sorry Joy for you having fibro. It stinks. I have it and am not doing too well with it and refuse to take the meds they want me on. I guess I have some autoimmune thing going on too. I hate they can't define it. It is either rhumitoid artheritis or Lupus...connective tissue. Who knows. But... yes... check up on foods for your condition. Those foods classified under nighshade can cause the joints to flare up. Hope your feeling better Joy Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 188 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,760 Amount Saved: $840.36 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 17 Mins: 2 Seconds: 56

Hi everybody :) I don't like what u posted Mercy, lol. Only b/c I love potatoes & I have fibromyalgia. As far as getting cravings or triggers to smoke from eatting certain foods I disagree. Only b/c from the people I've talked to that relapse say it's due to an extremely emotional problem that they didn't think they could deal with so they chose to start smoking again. Another reason I don't believe that food trigger us to smoke is b/c after 6mos or so the craving go away no matter what food we're eatting. Of course I did, as many others, enjoy smoking after eatting but that's different. If it were true that food causes triggers to smoke then why is it that the cravings get less and less over time and finally do go away all together? If I eat potatoes today I don't believe that my cravings will be any worse that they would have if I didn't eat potatoes. The times the cravings get the worst for me is when I'm going through something emotional that I actually have to deal with since I'm not smoking my problems away anymore. Today I was in serious pain & honestly thought I was going to start smoking but again I picked up my phone and called my friend Lady & thank GOD she was there for me :) I made it through today. I'm still hurting & scared & in pain but smoking would only hurt me more. I don't know why it is that when we're hurting we want to hurt ourselves more by relapsing? And people kill themselves b/c the pain is so intense that they don't know how to deal with it. I didn't smoke, drink or kill myself today. I cried, called my friend for help and prayed to GOD to help me get through this pain. Results: I'm still smoke-free. All I ate today were 2 chicken wings & some cottage cheese and oh yeah an ice cream cone from Mc Donald's. Bottom line the cravings will come or not come no matter what we eat. When we are newly quit we get many cravings. The cravings wear off and then eventually go away all together. After the cravings are gone, if u eat potatoes u will not start getting cravings again, lol. Just breathe....... Cigarettes Not Smoked

Tom, I love potato salad too. My Mom's recipe is the best! I don't make it often though, as it is high in calories. It is a comfort food for me. I find I have cravings whenever I have comfort foods. You know the ones Mom made when you still a teenager at home, smoking..... I guess there could be trace amounts of pesticide on fruits & veggies we buy, that could explain the nicotine findings. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 144 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,600 Amount Saved: $1,519.20 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 14 Mins: 57 Seconds: 9

Mercy, Nicotine is sold as a commercial pesticide and therefore it isn't unlikely that traces of it could be found in the foods we eat. For those of you who find that they are craving as a result of eating some of the foods mentionned above, you may want to consider switching to organic fruits & vegetables. As some of you may know, organic foods must meet certain standards set out such as not using pesticides to aid in the growth of their crops. With regards to this new nicotine product, you should know the FDA is taking steps to protect the public. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Saw an advertisment for a new product called Niclite. It is water laced with nicotine. 4mg to be exact. Being a junkie I actually at first thought 'hey, the solution!' But further thought and reading changed all that. They are touting it, not as a quit smoking tool, but as a tool to help you get thru the long hauls where you cannot smoke, like flights, movies, etc. etc. They say you can only have a max of 4 bottles a day (each with 4 mg of nicotine in it =16mg) Now I am thinking 'red flag, red flag'. How many people are going to get sucked in by this and they are saying its good for you, especially since it is in water. (Hydrates you at the same time) Can you believe it??? Ex-smokers, BEWARE! I can see this product sucking people in and their being addicted all over again because the company touts it as being good for you. Google it folks and put it on your 'what to avoid list!' (Mods I think this is something we all need to see!) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 144 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,600 Amount Saved: $1,519.20 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 14 Mins: 38 Seconds: 20

Oh, by the way, these cravings are very manageable. I've become an expert at dealing with them and aside from a mild inconvenience they don't represent a threat to my quit. It's like passing the Dairy Queen, the crave only lasts for a moment then it's gone. I won't get upset over that nor will I reject a bowl of my wife's potatoe salad, it's the best I've ever had anywhere.

Okay Kiwi, you've got my attention though I find humor in the idea I am addicted to some veggies and teas. I really think I can live happily and healthy with that addiction. I believe you have a valid point but am concerned about possible reactions to it. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug that can harm your cardiovascular system if abused (we all did). Nicotine is not good for me, I'm an addict. You're point is well taken though; might these foods trigger cravings in us addicts. I may be a believer. My wife made potatoe salad for our bar-b-que this past weekend and I've had three servings of it thus far and for the last day or so I've been having mild cravings for the first time in many weeks. Thank you for your post. With the exception of eggplant you've listed some of my favorite foods and I don't see me giving them up. If it's true they can bring on cravings then it's important we recognize what is causing them.

Put it this way... why would an ex-smoker ruin a 10 year quit & smoke again ?. O.k. i'll spell it out ... Smokers are addicted to nicotine right ... so if nicotine is re-introduced into an ex-smokers system unknowingly in small quantities via food, would it not trigger nicotine withdrawl.
