Being an old sage I can respond by saying that the quote Bear posted was indeed by Hellen Keller. For those of you who are interested in quotes and their sources just google "famous quotes" and you will discover a whole world of great information. Also you can google "Carl Hutton Blogs" and discover some more of the world. Hope this helps all of you to find peace, inspiration and good will. Members, Lots of great support and inspiration across this thread. Maybe it's not about looking for the open door but figuring out why we still look at the closed one? Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Sometimes it's a window that opens & we don't see it because we're looking for a door. We have to be open to new ways of getting where we want to be. Bear, This quote is so powerful and so comforting. Butterfly Swimmer, life is a constant series of doors opening and closing. Sometimes we open and close them very quickly without any effort at all. Sometimes our doors seem very far apart or even non existant. We know or think we need to go through a new one but we can't find the handle no matter how hard we look for it. Sometimes when I feel this way, I just stop for a minute and look around with my heart and my mind. Usually I realize I'm standing in the archway of the door, and I just need to step forward one pace. One door always leads to another one, even if the path is long. I'm so glad I've stepped through the non smoking door and found all my good friends at SSC. :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 167 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,680 Amount Saved: $2,338.00 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 17 Mins: 45 Seconds: 43

Thank you Bear!!! This is such a great post!! Knock me down and I won't stay down, I'm getting back up. Knock me down again and I'll stand again. Eventually one of us will tire and I'm telling you it won't be me. My destination is not a closed door... Are you sure that wasn't by Helen Keller??? That is my favorite and I have a plaque that says it with her name under it..... Is there a reward to the person who can identify the real author. I guess it really doesn't matter, lets all just read it and live by it! Not trying to hijack this thread or anything, but I do want to discuss the meaning of the quote. Perhaps discussing it will help others. I don't want this thread to be about me, but rather about the quote and what it means. For the last several minutes since I first read it this morning, I've been thinking about that quote and I guess it's just so hard to go looking for those open doors. I mean, we don't even know where to start looking! We know where the closed door is, so maybe that's why we stand there so long looking at it... we don't know where else to go. How do you even start looking for other doors? It seems so overwhelming! Again, I don't want this to be about me, but rather I'd like this to be a philosophical discussion about the quote that could help others as well to get from where they are to where they want to go. Crave the Quit!
