Introducing Myself to Members

Hi Linda,

Thank you for sharing. I am sure many members can relate.  I am sorry to hear that you have been going through a difficult time.  Just know we are here for you whenever you need us.  You are not alone.  Now you have many friends you can lean on.  You do not have to be strong for others here.

The symptoms you are describing sound like depression.  Depression often has been described as "empty" of emotions. Everyone has different symptoms, the fact that you cannot feel joyous or extremes in any emotion sounds a lot like depression.  In the end it is best to trust the diagnoses of your doctor.

I am wondering what you mean when you say you have never "allowed your self to feel". Can you expand on this comment? How did this come to be?

You need to know that everyone is not your responsibility.  You sound like a very caring person and I know it probably is hard for you to let go of this idea but you need to try.  What do you think is important to you about fixing things for everyone?  What has made you feel that this is your responsibility?

Take care,

Hi

I have just joined this centre.  I spent 3 weeks in an Adult Psych Centre in the last month.

I am having some problems.  I know that I suffer from depression from the diagnosis from the centre, my failed (ugh!!!) attempt to overdose and from your questionaire.  The whole thing is that I really don't feel depressed.  I feel nothing.  I don't cry, weep or any other depressive symptoms.  I can act whatever the situation calls for.  I can be kind, ageeable, supportive, etc but I can't feel anything.  I never feel happy or joyous just empty.  For me to try to track my mood is almost futile as I have for so many years not allowed myself to feel.  and when I do it is usually because situations have been to the breaking point.  I end up being angry and usually it causes me to spin into an attempt of suicide or other coping methods

Can anyone out there relate?  I don't have many supports as I am the "strong one".  I take care of everyone and hate that I can't make everythiing right for everyone.

I really hate my life!!

Hi Paulina rose,

Welcome to the family. I am glad you came here.  Have you started looking through the program, you might find it to be a big help to you.  Also, are you seeing a counsellor or therapist?

Thats amazing that you went back to college you should be so proud of yourself!  Is there a way of eventually finishing the exams when you are ready? There are some programs that you can take at your own pace over the internet.  They may be something for you to look into.

Take a read through the forums you may find information that will help you. One forum that I think will be beneficial to you is the achievements list.  It is important to take small steps every day to feel accomplished.

I encourage you to try to maintain your social relationships.  Although they may seem like a lot of work  as humans (social creatures) we need to be social. You may not notice it in the situation but the effects of social interaction can really effect your mood.  One goal for this weekend would be to call a friend.  But you set what goals are right for you; also set rewards that are right for you .

Looking forward to hearing from you again soon!

Hi Jamey,

The sessions Josie is referring to is in your "tool box". The sessions are sections in the online depression program.  Many members find it very helpful you should try working your way through it.  The information you gain is good for personal use but it can also be given to your therapist.

Lori,

Welcome and thanks for taking the time to share with us.  This program was designed by doctors and can make a difference.  The program tips, tools and sessions can help you progress every step of the way.

We encourage you to work through and take the depression test.  This can better assess the situation for you and your doctor.  Do post often and ask for support and assistance and let the members share their experiences with you.

We are always here.
