Need help with anticipatory anxiety.

Thank you both so much. A little bit of "good" news:-) Our dog is responding really well to her new meds and is walking and even running again at times. The vet feels very optimistic about her complete recovery. My daughter had to do another round of medical allergy tests, and had a reaction at 2:30 am the following morning. Thankfully there was a doctor on call that she was able to talk to and the reaction was very slight compared to the really bad ones she has had. I have decided for the next week to just pull back from everything and take care of myself. I will continue with my journaling and yoga, and just take care of me for awhile until I feel better. Also, limiting and/or eliminating my exposure to people that contribute to my anxiety....like friends or family that don't "get it." Thanks so much for the quote and making me look at how the emotions are or are not serving me. That really helps!!!

I'm so sorry for all you and you're family have gone through. The past year was a rough one for me but nowhere close to what you are describing. But I don't want you to think that's a bad thing. I heard a saying once, I'm not sure where or even if I have the words perfectly, but it has always rang true in my life...

Hi Demi,

This is a tough one. You are absolutely right, it can be very hard to let go of the anxiety and sadness when so much has been going on. Also, remember that some anxiety and sadness is normal. In fact, feeling sad about sad things is healthy just as feeling anxious about certain things is healthy. Try to remind yourself that it is ok to feel sad and anxious - they are important emotions just like happiness and peace. In fact without these "bad" emotions we would not be able to experience the "good" ones. But sometimes these emotions don't serve you. Once the anxiety or sadness starts to linger and is hindering your growth instead of helping to heal then it can become a problem. So ask yourself, how are these emotions serving me? Sometimes you may find they are, other times no - if no then what can be done to help?

Bad feelings will go away with time but sometimes it takes work. Counselling, and other types of therapies can help during times of crisis or after.

Over the last several years our family has gone through some very heavy things. Cancer--mine and my mom's- the death of two beloved dogs within months of each other-bankruptcy- our daughter ending up in the emergency room with an allergic reaction to antibiotics that had her throat closing up......and more. It has been crazy. Our whole family is now in the mindset of what is going to happen next. Just this past week, we thought we were going to put our young dog down because her health started to fail as a result of seizures and meds she is on....it has been too much. My question is HOW do you not anticipate more bad things happening when so many have, so close together. And there is a lingering sadness in our home now because of all of it. I am generally a positive person, and keep a gratitude journal, have a support group too, but there comes a point where it all just gets to be too much, and you feel a little scared all the time. Will the bad feelings from all of this ever go away--especially if the bad things continue? Thank you :-)
