Re-assessing Goals

11 years ago 0 4027 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Davit,
I guess what happens to me when I get side tracked is that I can spiral into detail and perfectionism.  I'll try what Vincenza said about asking myself if the activity is related to the goal.

I do need to set finite goals though, and they have fall along the the  lines of being "SMART", as others suggest.

Anybody else struggling with their goal-setting?

Hi hugs

I guess your not as old or laid back as I am. What is wrong with getting side tracked. Is the big picture that important? It gets even more lost when two of us get side tracked. Okay for some people the big picture is important and that is fine and some times we get frustrated when we stray but for me I have to ask how important is it. I'm old and comfortable and happy with my life and home. We are trying to put an addition on the house and the tractor is broken again. Just when I need it. Ho hum, story of my life. A day late and a dollar short. Well not really but it seems like it sometimes. Well to tell the truth I'm not happy all the time, but that I think is normal for most people.

Hi Hugs,

That's a good question.  One suggestion you can try (if you don't already do this) is to set your "big picture goal" and then list the necessary steps to achieve that goal.  Anything you may get stuck on or sidetracked with, ask yourself if it's a necessary step or process to achieve your goal.
Making such a list can help keep you focused and on track.

Members, what are your suggestions?

What I struggle with is "the big picture".  I'm too attached to details, and get sidetracked.  Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

As we are now into Autumn, it is a good time to reassess your goals. Having goals is an important step of personal development.
Setting and assessing your goals regularly helps to keep you motivated and driven to succeed.
By setting goals you know where to focus your efforts.

Remember the SMART principle when setting your goals.
That is, make sure your goals are:
Specific - have a clear and concise goal in mind, not a general one.
Measurable- you should be able to track progress/changes and answer how many?, how much?
Attainable - your goal should be achievable, make sure not to extreme nor to easy to achieve.
Relevant -realistic
Timely- make sure you plan how long you will take or intend to achieve your goal by

You can set goals in many different aspects of your life (e.g., education, family, physical activity, career, attitude, pleasure, financial)

So go ahead and reassess your goals or set some new ones. It is a motivating tool

Be well
