anerol,

Using questions to counteract the anxious thoughts is a great tip, indeed!

eles7,
Have you tried using questions to counteract anxiety? If so, how did it go?

I have this problem as well.. so instead, I've been trying to work on my negative core beliefs for this and why I have anxious thoughts for situations like this. I would reflect on why I have the anxiety and what I'm saying in the anxious thoughts and use the questions to counteract to the thoughts. And just keep doing that over and over... or try out other things like use distractions when I'm in the exposure. I'm still not an expert at it, but i believe it's helping, good luck.

I work an hour away from work so I have to take the train to work everyday. I have anxious thoughts everyday getting on the train and I also have to ride the train to a certain point everyday in order to get to work, therefore I am exposing myself everyday. That being said, I'm having a hard time setting a goal. A goal for me couldn't be riding the train for 5 or 10 mintues because I have to ride the train for an hour. Could a goal for me then to be to get to a certain stops without having a panic attack?

Hello eles7,

I would definitely recommend visiting session 4 on exposure work. In exposure work remember that learning occurs at moderate levels of anxiety.

When you think about doing exposure work, we want you to think about doing your exposure in situations that only make you moderately anxious. Trust us and don't bail out yet! We don't want you to expose yourself to situations that are too hard for you right now.

One of the things you need to know about exposure work and fear is that if you expose yourself to what you're afraid of and nothing bad happens, your fear will go down. It may take a long time but sooner or later your fear will decrease.

Check out section 4 and report back to us! Best of luck,

I have a question in regards to my exposure work. I have anxiety taking the train to work every morning because a few weeks ago I had a pretty bad panic attack on the train and now I expect to have another one on the train daily. Despite this fear, I still get on the train but with the constant anxious thoughts of having another attack. My question is, how would I complete my exposure work if I already expose myself to my fear?
