I think it was a guy on a teeter-totter speaking to his wife on the teeter-totter at a nudist colony.

Who was it that said give me a long enough lever and I will move the moon.

Many men fail because they quit too soon. They lose faith when the signs are against them. They do not have the courage to hold on, to keep fighting in spite of that which seems insurmountable. If more of us would strike out and attempt the "impossible," we very soon would find the truth of that old saying that nothing is impossible... abolish fear and you can accomplish anything you wish.
- Dr. C. E. Welch

This seems like a good guide to success, since I don't think you can imagine the impossible while being fearful, since they're polarized desires...can't find the words

Davit,
A real tree probably hits the central meaning of Christmas more than gift giving

Having absolutely no one to buy presents for for the last ten years I am out of practice. I still put up a tree and did the tradition even though I was by myself. I guess it still means something to me.

Davit,
There's no one around, as I looked with a blank face at the letters soliciting money with stickers for the many presents I don't have time to buy.  Wish i had time to something, but some of this is not entirely by choice.

I guess I'm lucky not to have to think about buying presents, making decisions...Christmas is just around the corner, but it's more of a cultural/spiritual date than anything other.

I have to muster the courage to see what grumpy mom wants so maybe she'll go to the clinic tomorrow,if I get her in a good mood

Well that works if you are young and healthy. When you get old you can have what you can afford and that isn't always what you need or want. The solution seems to be. "don't get old"

You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world.
- Sheila Graham

At this stage in life, I'm lucky enough to consider what others want around me, instead of thinking I'm the center of the universe

What's in it for me!

Seems to be number one priority for so many people. And well with the economy what it is I suppose it is a good thing. I would have been a lot better off with that attitude, but would I be happy. I suppose I would if winning was important to me. Being happy is more important. I have quite a few strikes against me, life is tough. I'm so used to being in pain that I don't know what it is like not to be. I'm way more tired than I should be. And even when I don't hurt, the arthritis has left me with limited movement. Only thing good about the future is that I will die and not have to do this any more. How is that for a negative post. Yes I get grumpy some times too. So what is in it for me? Sorry but I don't care, I can't afford to be that selfish. I might think about it but it doesn't dictate how I live. I like a good deal but I like friends more. Doesn't mean I let people take me for a ride, at least not if they do it on purpose or more than once. Ah but then they wouldn't be friends then would they. Friendship and life in general is a two way street. I don't think "what's in it for me should enter, but often it does".

If I sound grumpy, well tonight I am. My turn to vent.

People don't change their behavior unless it makes a difference for them to do so.
- Fran Tarkenton

What's in it for me is a phrase which many use.  It's abbreviated as "WIIFM" and asks the question, what is there in this this thought action or process which I can gain benefit.  This helps me to motivate myself sometimes.
