Having once decided to achieve a certain task, achieve it at all costs of tedium and distaste. The gain in self confidence of having accomplished a tiresome labor is immense.
- Thomas A. Bennett

When it gets to tedium and distaste only as an obstacle, I've tried to convince myself that this is a good view of the challenge ahead.

But then I feel self-critical, and call myself "lazy", which doesn't help

The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.
- Eddie Robinson

Every failure is a step to success.

Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.
- Foster C. Mcclellan

Sometimes it's hard to "trust" oneself, since our emotions seem to be more in control than ourselves

Not many people are willing to give failure a second opportunity. They fail once and it's all over. The bitter pill of failure is often more than most people can handle. If you're willing to accept failure and learn from it, if you're willing to consider failure as a blessing in disguise and bounce back, you've got the potential of harnessing one of the most powerful success forces.
- Joseph Sugarman

I think sales people cope with failure differently from those who fear it.  Instead of wishing to give failure a second chance, I suppose we could look at giving success a second chance

Quote of the Day:
If you have tried to do something and failed, you are vastly better off than if you had tried to do nothing and succeeded. You must never regret what might have been. The past that did not happen is as hidden from us as the future we cannot see.
- Richard Martin Stern

This reminds me of "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

If you want to take your mission in life to the next level, if you're stuck and you don't know how to rise, don't look outside yourself. Look inside. Don't let your fears keep you mired in the crowd. Abolish your fears and raise your commitment level to the point of no return, and I guarantee you that the Champion Within will burst forth to propel you toward victory.
- Bruce Jenner

I woke up with a nightmare of failing a work, and being constantly behind.

I can't control the past, but will work with this moment as constructively as I can

Quote of the Day:
You can do what you want to do, accomplish what you want to accomplish, attain any reasonable objective you may have in mind - not all of a sudden, perhaps not in one swift and sweeping act of achievement - but you can do it gradually, day by day and play by play, if you want to do it, if you work to do it, over a sufficiently long period of time.
- William E. Holler
I often feel drained at this time of the year, maybe since there's a crush of activity ending with this traditionally long weekend.  During this long weekend, there's a pause in the world, my it seems like I wish to keep active, even though my body wishes to rest.

Even as I child I recall wishing to play with friends, and the disappointing lack of availability of people, or their reluctance to wish to come out and play.  They were drawn into other activities, it seemed.

I wonder if others feel the need to keep active, even though there's an internal polarized force to rest

You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world.
- Sheila Graham

Then there's the unconscious(not sure of my spelling this early in the morning!).  Some mornings i just wake up and start doing stuff, since there's less energy to resist. eg. today, I started to clean  up my finances, standing up(my chair was too far away since I'd done some spring cleaning).

Hi Davit,
The expression which captures the motivating behaviour is "...the pain of staying the same must exceed the pain of changing...".
