jaybe,

I'm going to post some things I did to help me sleep, I hope others here will post what they do or did also.

My Doctor recommended Lemon Balm tea (a mint) as an anti anxiety. Tetley's Ginger Mint is another good one. Calcium, even if you are not low. It helps control information flow.
No coffee or tea after noon. You can start them again after you get better. Scalded milk. I put postum in it. Scalding milk releases Tryptophan a calming chemical that helps sleep. Light supper. Very little sugar. No apples, bananas or dry fruit after supper.
Tums if necessary. Hot shower.
And finally Non vocal relaxation CDs played low. And a night light.
And if I woke at 2 in the morning I would journal on my computer just anything, more like babbling but it helped.

Thanks Davit,    I really appreciate the support, I am really having a rough time,I have such bad GAD that it makes me sick at times. Insomnia is also a problem, sometimes I am asleep by 10: 00, others nights It's 2am before I can relax to sleep.  I have 2 young children to take care of and are usually up early.  Posting on here, so far has been the best therapy, I guess just having someone to share with is what makes this site great.   Thanks  Jaybe

It is perfectly possible to do the program or any CBT without meds, all that happens is that when you are really anxious it can be hard to understand. Feel free to ask anything you do not understand. I have infinite patience, I don't mind explaining something more than once. Fear of meds is pretty common. It is actually a good fear, better than using them inappropriately. But used right there is nothing wrong with them. I'm actually on nothing anymore, but did use them when I had too. I also used them inappropriately and was dependent for a while. I'm not any more.

Thanks Josie and Davit,   I am thinking about seeing someone, maybe to find try and find a reason my anxiety and panic is back, I am afraid of meds, i understand that can help , but I still have an unrealistic fear,I find that I need distractions when i am busy sometimes I find that I feel better.  thanks for the support   Jaybe

Have you started meds again. It is okay, you know. They won't cure you but they sometimes make it easier to do CBT. I know the side effects can be horrible so if you want to go med free we will be here to help and support you all we can. Just wanted to let you know we are not critical, we support not criticize. Some use meds, some don't, it is your choice.

Jaybe,

Welcome and thanks for introducing yourself and sharing your story. The program has a lot to offer, so feel free to take a look and get started.  Many members have advised that it does help with their panic and it can be a great asset.  The members also know what you are going through and can share with you their experiences.

Take the anxiety test and take a copy to your counsellor with you.  This can help you both assess the situation better.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi  Everyone,  Here is my story:  I was married to an over the road truck driver. I had a less than 2 yr old, was in a grocery store, suddenly felt light headed, scared and had to escape. I stayed with my parents for about a month, made 3-4 trips to the er,was finally diagnosed with anxiety after months of testing, took medication, paxil and atenonal, was fine mostly. a few attacks here and there, then starting having them about 4-5 years later, then in 2006 stopped taking meds when became pregnant with twins, have felt fine till about a month ago, out of the blue, had an attack, light headed, felt like I was going to die, felt nausea, went to the dr.s and I think now my next step is to see a counsellor, I'll do anything to get rid of this, I am starting to be afraid to leave the house, hope to get some advice from here,  thanks

Hi jaybe

Welcome to the site,

Any particular reason to feel anxious?  How long have you been like this? There is one school of thought that says generalized anxiety just happens but I feel there is always a reason, we just sometimes can't tell what it is. This is a good site with people in all stages of renewal. You don't have to have real bad panic attacks to get help here either. The program works for all forms, mild to massive. And it is a good place to vent, often just doing that will give you some release.
