yes, going through the lessons on this site is slow going, but going, I try to remenber sometimes that it is a long road, but I think I look at setbacks as failures, when I am having  a good day everything looks so clear, but on bad days it'sdifficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I have learned that meds can help, I have been so afraid of them, I took one on a  bad day and it helped me not to get to the panic.

The road to recovery is very long and on going but it is far better than sitting by the wayside and doing nothing. Every little step is a step toward freedom. Every step means you are no longer the way you were even though at times it won't seem that way. You will always have a panic disorder only because now you know what it is. But it doesn't have to control you. You can get to the point where you no longer are effected by it. In effect cured. But there is no cure, it will always be there to the extent that you allow it. Don't let this discourage you. You can get to the point where you never again have anxiety just the potential for it.
Try and remember that now that you have experienced some of your fears and know what your triggers are you now know who you are better than ever, and you know what your triggers are.  You are better equipped to handle any sort of situation which may present itself to you in the future.  And yes, you will get problems every now and then but you know how to handle it better - you didn't have the tools before, now you do.  You will be stronger and better able to conquer negatives in your life.

Hi Jaybe,
Thanks for sharing your inspiring update!

You can have a look at our Panic Centre website and find tools to help you challenge negative thoughts if you find you are struggling to stay positive.  We are with you every step of the way.

Hi All,   just an update,  for the the first time in 13 or so years I feel hopeful, I have started therapy, I guess I will go every 2 weeks, found out I have alot of unresolved issues, dating back as long as 30 yrs. I was told all issues will be dealt with sooner or later, but when you stack then up, you deal with them indirectly by anxiety or panic.  So the long journey begins to come to terms with everything, one step at a time.  I am kinda overwhelmed on how long the road will be, but I am a strong person and I know I'll come out the other side feeling even better than ever. I have to try very hard to be positive, I come from a family that is full of negativity, so my faith is my best support and this web site, which really is great, wish i knew about it sooner.   any advice is welcomed, I really feel better most times just knowing that there are so many caring people on this site.  thanks !   jaybe

Relaxation exercises will prove the value to you after you try them.  Think of the thousands of years of historic following of those breathing foundational basics blended into yoga and eastern meditation

Hi Jaybe,
welcome, I also believe in the relaxation excercises I had terrible trouble sleeping a few months back, sometimes it seemed like i laid there all night awake but i found if i did them half an hour before i went to bed i felt tired straight away, my anxiety always started with the light headed feeling never got much worse then that but when i got like that i would start to panic, now if i feel that way i use the 10 questions to asses the situation.
I hope you get a good sleep soon and feel better

hi All,   Drinking decaf hot tea helps reduce anxiety alot, I like to write poems, that helps me get distracted, and a nice hot shower relaxes all my tight muscles!  Thanks for the ideas!   jaybe

Hello Jaybe:  Welcome to the site.  For me what has worked the best is the same thing I posted to Josh.  Those relaxation exercises work.
Also for me when I was really bad for sleeping, a hot milk, a hot as you can stand it soak in the tub, reading a very "light" book because concentration wasn't at its best at the time, sometimes I would rearrange all my furniture in my mind, or design a garden the way I wanted as though money were no object (a kind of visualization), I like to write, so some poetry and a story I was working on, making it into a movie, figuring out the shots and details I wanted.  I always fell asleep before finishing it.
Hope these ideas can help.

Your friend, Sunny
