Coping Strategies for a Stress Plan

Hello -m:  When I read your post I was thinking about AA too, as Sid has mentioned in her post.  One thing at a time or it becomes overwhelming. too much stress to learn everything all at once.  I have been to Al Anon because I had members of my family who were alcoholic.  It helped me tremendously understand this disease.  There but for the grace of God, go I.  I have been to open AA meetings too, supporting someone.  I sincerely hope you give it a try because you will get lots of feedback and support which is what you are looking for.  I have found warmth, compassion and true genuineness at these meetings.  I also learned that it is difficult to change anything while in an alcoholic fog, especially thinking patterns.  I don't know if you still drink or not, but I've learned that even if you don't drink anymore, you still need to learn the whys and what pitfalls may await you.  I just wanted to share what I have seen and learned.  Hope it helps some.

Hi ~m:
I am sorry you are having a hard time of it ..I agree there is not a lot of  group support in the depression center but I do like the written information there in the sessions toolbox on core beliefs..There is very little information here in the panic center on core beliefs..so I read the info there on cord beliefs and apply it to the my anxiety and panic work I do here..so I still come here for group support and work the program here.
You mentioned that you were not getting any support from the group in the Alcohol Help Center..Have you tried or considered going to AA meeting? Alcoholics Anonymous has meeting most every day and night..Is this something you might consider doing? This may be a place where you can get the support you need that you are not getting from the Alcohol Help Center sister site here..
AA helped me get sober and quit using alcohol..They have helped others that are very close to me also. Everyone is very friendly there and more than willing to lend a listening ear..They are all recovering alcoholics so they know where you are coming from..They have a 12 step program that has a proven track record of helping people stay sober...I have not had a drink in over 5 years now because of their help..The panic program here has been the missing puzzle for me in my journey to recovery and so has all the information I have gotten out of the depression center..They have all helped me to be whole again.

I hope this information helps you in some way. It is not something I find easy to talk about..

Hugs is right maybe you need to just do one site at a time. Some of the help from each site crosses over. Do you need to do all three? If you need support from your friends this is the best site for that. Is there anything I can do to help, you know I have a lot of experience. Is there anything specific that is bothering you or is it just an overall feeling of too much of a load?
What is the problem you are having with negative core beliefs? Understanding them or burying them? The way a person interacts with core beliefs is different for panic than depression. Panic can cause depression or the other way round but that is there only connection. They are black and white and therefor treated slightly different. I feel very uncomfortable on the depression site.
I feel out of place, unaccepted. I seldom go there any more.

~m,
I wonder what the facilitators think about just focusing on one program?  I'd like to the weight program sometime, but it's not urgent.
Being in a number of programs reminds me of a friend who stated he had too many friends, but it doesn't sound like the sister programs are doing much for you, are they?
Why not hang out here, and follow Josie's suggestion about focusing on the areas you feel most stressed in...a bit at a time.

I miss you since you're always so supportive

I am stressing and as well as implementing the strategies Josie is writing about, I feel like I really need some short term help.  I don't know where to post this vent/rant... I don't know what it is.  I am feeling very, very stressed and totally lost/disconnected/stupid.  I've been trying to address negative core beliefs in the depression center but have gotten myself stuck/confused ... don't get much feedback at depression center.  I don't know what to ask or say anyway.  I've invested a great deal of myself in the Alcohol Help Center and again get almost no response, except from the Health Educators... they are quite wonderful and responsive.  But otherwise I feel invisible.  I keep telling myself not to post there, but I still do.  That was the first forum I participated in and it really helped to feel connected with ppl there.... not so much now.  Here at the Panic Center is the only place where I ever get any response.  So why don't I just stay here?  I don't know.  Doing three programs at once is just too overwhelming.  I'm not thinking straight and am feeling utterly lost.  I KNOW you all can set me straight and get me back on track.  What do I need to do?  How do I adjust my thoughts and focus at this point?

Members,

Stress is a normal part of everyone's life and there are healthy ways of dealing with it. You can change or avoid the sources of stress. You can change the way that you respond to stress and you can learn to relax by utilizing your stress plan!

Last week we began formulating a stress plan. Today, we will be talking about coping. It generally falls into five categories:

  • Physical
  • Mental
  • Social
  • Diversions
  • Spiritual

Pick 2 for each category and rank on a scale of 1-10 the level of relaxation/stress relief this activity provides for you.

The next time your stressor rears its ugly head, rate the level of stress you are experiencing and pick the corresponding numbered coping strategy.
Have fun! Don’t be afraid to list the items you’ve chosen for your categories, may help another stressed quitter!
