I still do this dance with every accomplishment. But that is all it is now is a dance like a two step.
One step back, two steps forward.

Here for you,
Davit.

Hi -m:  I suppose new feelings do stir up different emotions and sometimes they can make us uncomfortable.  It's like the heart will beat faster when we are happy and surprised just as much as when we are frightened about something.  Maybe this is where we have to think in a more positive way and reward ourselves, journal the achievement maybe.  Seems to me though, wouldn't we feel even happier to know that we did it, whatever it is we accomplished?  and stick with it because of that.  Maybe it takes practice of this accomplishment more than just once or twice to feel comfortable with it, so let's not give up trying new things.  I don't want to stagnate, I want to live and be alive and feel and enjoy this life.  Let's keep the faith and believe in the future.

Richard...
Sometimes when I have a success like you related in your last post.... I have a tendency to follow that up with totally falling back about 3 steps... self-sabotaging behavior.  I've only recently come to understand that I do that because positive emotions are as likely to trigger anxiety  as negative ones (sometimes they all feel uncomfortable).... so I kind of freak out if I do really well in some circumstance.  I hope this is not happening to you, but thought I'd share just in case.  It is a very frustrating phenom... but not one that is insurmountable.  Anyways.... I hope you are managing ok and know.... there are people here who care.

Way to go Richard!  Yea, sometimes after doing an exposure, it is very tiring and a nice relaxation afterward is perfect, a hot shower will help.  All that tension during the exposure has to go somewhere.  Don't forget to reward yourself afterward, a little something extra to reinforce the positives.  You did great!  Congratulations.

Richard! Excellent! I love to read about the incremental successes that other people have in their lives. Makes me understand those successes are doable for me too. It also builds confidence in the methods we are learning.

Glad to hear!

Richard,
Congratulations on your success with your latest exposure.
Getting some shut eye sounds like a great reward for a job well done...
Keep up the good work.

Richard,

Terrific. Hold onto that success and use it as a shield every time you start to slip.
Congratulations, it does get better.

Here for you,
Davit.

Hey guys, thanks for checking in on me.  My boys had a cub scout day camp today, so I have been very busy.  I drove on the freeway twice today with zero issues and dealt with the crowds and was able to be a father.  I tried breaking the cycle of negative thoughts and it seems to give me relief.  I am going to continue to work the program and post here. Now off to bed I am exhausted its been a very long day.  Thanks again everyone, talk to everyone tomorrow...... Richard
