Hi Teebs:  The point was on top of the head towards the back - maybe 3/4 of the way towards the back and centre, around there.  I just know I felt relaxed.  Yes, I will let you know when I go and how it went.  Glad it helps you.  I wonder if you go back you could ask your acupuncturist about that spot on the head.

I hope you'll post back about your experience with acupuncture. I've been going to an acupuncturist off and on for a year for anxiety and have found it moderately helpful. It's no magical cure-all for me but I have definitely noticed impacts. I've also had other issues treated via acupuncture as they come up and have had very successful treatment for those, especially reducing the pain and bringing back the flexibility in my foot and toe after I broke it. I always sleep better and have a good day the day after a treatment. Just out of curiosity, where on your head was the point he pressed? I've had a needle in the forehead but never on my head!

 I'm so sorry to hear abut that young woman, what a shame.... too young..... And very emotional for you and your family, rough time. I know I shouldn't, but I always ask why? why? I see people every day at  almost 100, just surviving... no "quality of life".. I realize that's subjective. I do not want  to live if I'm bed-ridden, rely on people or machines  to feed , clean and clothe me, they dictate my every minute of the day. 
 I hope I'm not offending anyone, because I truly respect the feelings of others, even if its not for me, but I guess working in this field makes me question.....why do some linger on forever and others die so young? 
It's very interesting about the "one-finger" application, giving you immediate relaxation. When someone gives me the finger I usually get more anxious. Ha haha, ok, lame but I had to say   it
How long did the relaxed feeling last?  Are you going to have accupuncture really? I'm not afraid of needles either, surprisingly enough...let us know how it goes!
As for the sauerkraut, well, its right up with liver for me. But the rice krispie squares, yum,  I used to make those so often, never ever put chocolate chips in them...sounds good.
I'm having a good day, its evening here now. I had a lot of errands and groceries to do today, and I did them all fine, without any anxiety at all.  So it got me thinking about how far I've come, from the days of needing a cart to hold on to, having to take hubby with me whenever I went to a store, fleeing from the line-ups..etc....I even did get one of those fingers in trafic today, that's what reminded me...but it didn't bother me at all, I just smiled, waved, and drove on.  And you know what? I've been alone just over 2 weeks, hubby comes back Oct 9th, I'm waiting on his call now...and son #1 had us both worried (again) but I feel competant, capable,  relaxed, not "dependant" (sure, I'm worried   about my son)but it feels "normal", not "anxious".

You don't need a lid unless you are getting fruit flies in it. But it has to be loose or the jar will blow up from the gas that forms as it works. Yes there has to be salt and it has to be non iodine rock salt. It doesn't ever have to be refrigerated. It just has to stay covered in brine. You might need a second cheese cloth as some cabbage gets a gray scum on top that you skim off and wash the cloth and replace it. This is normal, it does not mean it is going bad. It will only go bad if the brine is too weak and then you will know it. I have never had it go bad. 
If I can get a cheese press built I want to try making Cheddar. Or some other hard cheese. I just recently made apple cider vinegar and it is so different from the store stuff. It is more like apple flavoured vinegar and brilliant, not the least bit cloudy.
every one should have a hobby especially one that is this fulfilling. 

Alternative therapies will not cure panic attacks but they can be a great help. I grow camomile for tea, along with a few mints, including Lemon Balm, which I have just been told interfears with synthroid. Which I do not use. St Johns wort should not be used if you take any antidepressant as it is supposed to be an MAO. 
I have not come across anything to replace CBT.
Tomorrow I see my therapist and I have lots of questions for her and a bribe, Rice Krispy Squares with chocolate chips. Have to keep her seeing me.

Hi Davit:  thanks for explaining the technique better.  He might have mentioned the salt, don't remember now.  You don't need a top on the jar, only the cheese cloth at the beginning?  wedged down as you say, to keep the cabbage wet with the brine.  Do you keep in refrigerator once you start using it?

Sauerkraut Is unbelievably easy to make and is far better than the stuff out of the store. There are recipes on the net. I make it in 1 ltr. jars. All you need is 2 lbs of cabbage cut the thickness of a dime. some rock salt a large bowl to mix it in and a piece of cheese cloth and a couple of popsicle sticks. Weigh the cabbage and put the right amount of salt on it to make it wilt. Pound it tight into a narrow mouth 1 ltr mason jar with a wooden spoon. It should form liquid as you do this and fill the jar. Put the cheese cloth square on top and break the sticks so you can wedge them in the top of the jar holding the cheese cloth under the brine that formed. The cabbage must be under the brine So if your cabbage was dry add more salt and water. Stand it in a bowl because it may over flow when it starts to work. It is done when the liquid level goes drops. about a week to ten days. It is not mushy like store bought, it actually has colour and crunch. It will keep a long time as long as it does not stick out of the brine.

Hi everyone:  I just got back from a funeral this morning( wake last night).  It was emotionally difficult because she was a  daughter of friends, only 32 yrs. old.  She used to babysit for us when she was a teensager. She had cancer all through her body - within a month of diagnosis, she was gone.  Very quick.
 
A man I know who is a massage therapist and accupuncturist saw me at the luncheon - someone I hadn't seen for awhile.  He is also a body builder, trainer.  He was my trainer when I first started at the gym.  He came over and started kneading my shoulders, behind the neck.  He could see I was tense, my shoulders held a bit too high.  I was already tired from standing about 2 hrs. last night and again at the lunch, wearing heels too. We talked about stress and high BP.  With one finger (no kidding) he pressed a certain spot on my head and I felt immediate relaxation.  I am not exaggerating.  It could be because I already know him and trust him that the effect was quick for me.  He said where he pressed down was an acupuncture spot where a needle would be inserted. I am going to see him professionally very soon and he is going to teach me how to do this and other relaxation techniques. I don't mind needles at all, so that's ok with me.  I can't wait!
 
He's also a nutritionist and told me any intestinal problems can be helped by taking NAC - a combination of vitamns and minerals. Also he said sauerkraut was excellent to settle things, but homemade.  He likes to use 1/2 red cabbage and 1/2 green, mash it up and let stand on kitchen counter for a week.  I think health food store could help with NAC.

I took St. John's wort for a while when I was on no traditional Western medication for my anxiety. Unfortunately I didn't find it affected me at all.

Everyday new gimmicks & therapies are becoming available for those who have a mood disorder. Although the following can not replace the traditional combination of medication & therapy, they may be very helpful. Here are a few that have been popular:
 
•    St. John’s Wort: An herb that is currently being extensively studied. Although it has shown positive effects on those with mild to moderate depression, it does also interact with a long list of prescription drugs. Proceed with caution & in consultation with your prescribing MD.
 
•    SAM-e: A molecule that naturally occurs in the cells of plants and animals. It has shown great promise when used as an antidepressant but it shouldn’t be used in combination with other antidepressants and your serotonin levels may need to be monitored. It can also be expensive.  Consult a MD before use.
