Hello Brittany and welcome.  I've heard of others having stomach problems too.  I'm not familiar with your type, as mine were mostly cramping feeling and acid reflux.  I have had the tingly or numbness feeling before which passed after the anxiety lessened.  I hope you study this CBT program and post here often.  I believe it to be the best for anxiety and stress related problems. We are here to support you through the bad times and to celebrate the good times.

Brittany

The drug the doctor gave you sounds like buspirone, commonly known as buspar which is a slow release anti anxiety. It is not addictive and not a benzodiazapene. I'm surprised because doctors usually give Ativan because it is so quick.

Your medication for hormone balance could be the culprit. Not directly but it works like this, the med makes your body feel just foreign enough for your fight or flight system to kick in but since you are not registering it as not foreign it won't kick out till it times out and goes away on itself.

Not at all pleasant. The question is what do you want to do about it? If it is this medication (look up the side effects) will you be on it for ever? Do you want to take a medication to smooth out the panic attacks while you learn about panic attacks and how to stop them? Do you just want to do the program? It works. A combination of both?

You have an advantage over most of us and that is being young and not having this condition all that long. Still panic attacks can be cured, mostly with knowledge and understanding. It takes a lot of telling yourself you know what is happening and it isn't important.

If it is a side effect of the medication ask your doctor if there is something different you can take without the side effects.

Welcome to the site,
We are here for you,
Davit.

Hi Brittany,

Welcome!

I am not a doctor but all of your symptoms sound like panic/anxiety.  If you doctor also thinks that this is the issue then I would trust his oppinion.  It can sometimes be hard to accept that the symptoms you are going through are panic related but once you do it is easier to not be afriad of the symptoms.

The program will certainly help you.  One section I think will help is the auxillary session on relaxation.  Practice these techniques daily, especially when you are experiencing anxiety or the symptoms you have mentioned.

Members, please share your thoughts and suggestions.

Hi Brittany,

I too suffer from hormonal issues. It can be really tough because you lose the sense of what your body is doing. I can never tell if my moods are because of pms or hormones or something else.

All I can say is that you are very welcome here. I too suffer from panic attacks. I also suffer with low self-esteem. We all share the common bond of anxiety and panic attacks here.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to take care of yourself. Make sure you find support here and in the outside world. The program here has helped me a lot. I also think it would be a good idea for all of us to get back in touch with our bodies.

Take care and I hope you feel better,

Kendra

Thought I may as well introduce myself. My name is Brittany, I'm a 17 year old girl from Essex.

I've had a few emotional issues over the last few years, (actually, as I write this sentence, I'm having heart palpitations, I will mention). mostly from issues based on a hormonal condition I suffer with. Recently had drugs put in me to pull out all the testosterone I unfortunately had in my body.

8 Weeks Ago I was having a lovely weekend with my boyfriend in Belgium, however I had a strange stomach ache all week. It wasn't achey, it wasn't crampy, it wasn't painful, it was just as though someone was squeezing my tummy and middle of my chest.

I didn't take this into account, really, I put it down to womens issues. Then at the end of the week, the 'squeezing' in my stomach felt a bit crappier than before. Regardless, I dealt with it all day and went to bed with him, feeling really quite tired. However I stayed up a little while chatting with him, then felt a strange feeling throughout my body, a numbness, which made me pause mid sentence. I sat up, and started hyperventilating just a little. Then started having massive heart palpitations, these came and went for 20 minutes, before eventually we decided to call in the doctor. When the palpitations went, my boyfriend said I looked very white during the whole thing, and I was sat there shaking uncontrollably, but feeling a lot better.

The doctor came, checked my blood pressure out, and did a check on my heart and just said it was a panic attack, but to take some pills (I believe they were called busiprones, but it may have been barbituates. Start with a b anyway.) and to tell my GP what happened when I got home. So yeah, I go home, he just shakes his head all the way through and says "Brittany, it was a panic attack. Most certainly." despite my fears that my drugs I was on to suppress testosterone were causing it.

So all was fine and dandy, I got off the stuff the Belgian doctor gave me within 3 days of being given it. I seemed to no longer be capable of stamina tasks (I exercise a lot) in the slightest, but other than that, I was absolutely fine and dandy.

So 2 weeks ago I was sitting at a family meal, my tummy had been aching allll day the same way it had been at the first panic attack. I didn't get palpitations, but I DID freak out when my body went numb and I started getting hot flushes and my breathing messed up.

Ever since that day, my sleep routine is messed up to hell. 7:00am to 4:00pm every day. My tummy is constantly feeling tight, my diaphragm area feels tight, I've been depressed, constantly scared, and keep doubting if I'm going through panic attacks.

I only seem to go through this at night. I believe all this is a product of 2 days of SERIOUS issues I had where I felt lower than I have done in a long time. I've been out of college due to my hormonal issue, I've been constantly socially aware of how I look in public, I've had lots of stress, but I don't feel it as badly any more than recently.

So any suggestions or .. well, anything anyone can give me in any sense to help me with this, I would be highly appreciative of.
