Thanks so much for your posts.  I am amazed there's so much activity going on here in these forums.

I think the meds are a god-send.  They have helped me so much in the past - so thanks Zoloft but I'd much prefer to do without you!

One day  many years ago I came home from living overseas a nervous wreck.  I'd been getting panic attacks and the anxiety that goes with it for the last few months and had no idea what was happening.  When I got home I told my parents.  That's when Mum told me Dad's history.

What none of us five kids ever knew was that Dad had a "Break Down" in the mid 60's.  The doctors called it that back then because they didn't know what we know now about anxiety and panic.  He was hospitalized, given experimental drugs (LSD!) and pretty much treated the exact opposite of what we're trying to do here.  He was so traumatized that he never recovered.  Until his death some years back he was on a cocktail of addictive meds that stabilized him.  We kids knew none of this.

Looking at what he went through for most of his adult life I am incredibly grateful that (1) we have effective non-addictive drugs to help and (2) we know so much more about the condition and treatments such as this website.

I assume that you guys know just as well as I do how horrible it is to have panic and anxiety.  Luckily we're living in an age that we can feel confident of recovery.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
This is a very helpful program....for me its been the learning of how to question my negative thoughts that has helped me the most. I have realized that my anxiety is all intertwined with my own thoughts,  now I have learnt to control my reaction to them, even thouh I can't control them popping in my head. This has been great for me.
I do take a SSRI, have for about 5 months,  feel it has enabled to me to really work on the program, and my phobias. Before that I was at a standstill , my anxiety  ruled my whole life. I too found this place while surfing the net for anxiety cures. I hope someday to be med free, but I'm loving the way I feel so I'm not rushing it. I'm not giving up on the program, just using both together.
Davit...sorry to hear it didn't work out with your brother. Like Sunny says, at least you tried.
Sunny, I love your discription of Davit's picture ( which is really nice)I know I said it before, but what a way with words you have!

Davit:  Sorry to hear it didn't work out.  You know you tried and who knows what the future might bring about. At least you are open-minded, forgiving and extending the olive branch. You are able to move on even with the sadness of misunderstandings.  My brother and I have been getting along very well recently.  It's a combination of a complete overhaul of his medications for diabetes and lifestyle (which has calmed him down) and my ability (because I'm feeling less stressed myself) to listen and enjoy his company.   We just said our last goodbyes this wknd. as he is heading back to Arizona for 6 months.  I find the summer went by so quickly and feel as though I missed a lot.  I guess I did miss out, having to stay inside and rest. However, we think of the positives which did happen this summer and celebrate those. Right?

When I see that photo of you and your horse, I can almost smell him, feel the muscle and feel the way the hair goes one way when you pat him, and how silky it is, all the little trembles they do and the flicking of the ears, following your movement and voice, the noise they make when they eat - I always get a kick out of that, munch, munch, munch.  You're sitting well,  perfectly at ease and in command.  A very positive happy photo for me.

Matt,

Welcome to the site. I commend you on your decision to recover from your panic attacks and to do so without the aid of medication. I've made a similar commitment and it is not easy!! I am working through the program and while it can be hard work I am noticing definite improvements. I suggest working through it at your own pace and taking time to really do the homework. This support group is just as valuable as the program in my opinion, as you always find someone who understands here. We're here for you!

I tried to patch things with my brother but it is hopeless. He is worse. So much hate for the world. And of course it is all my fault. In our family you never get a third chance. I don't know why because I keep forgiving and trying.

So I put up the picture to remind me that I once had a very healthy mind and body before, and though the body is failing the mind isn't. It is my favourite picture too. From a better time. When you get old some times all that is left is memories. Oh and by the way I got my curly red hair from my mother.

Here for all my friends, past, present and future.

Hello Matt:  Welcome to the site!  I agree with what Davit writes.  Personally speaking, I have found the relaxation and deep breathing exercises the best for nipping the symptoms of anxiety or stress when they start.  It took practice.  Every day, two times a day even.  Only takes 5-10 minutes of your day.  If I may make a suggestion, find a spot which is comfortable for you, where you won't get interrupted, and practice these two techniques every single day.  Do not skip a day, do them even if you feel you don't need them that day.  The reason?  because practice makes perfect and next time you feel anxious, these techniques will be in place for you when you need them.  It will come automatically.
Next, do your homework.  Follow the program chapter by chapter.  Build on these chapters by doing your homework, practicing what you learn as you go along.  Remember that your anxiety didn't come overnight and the cure isn't overnight either.  Everyone works at a different pace because we are all different with our own set of problems, etc.  So no need to compare yourself to anyone.  You know what you need best.
Reading posts, past and present, can be helpful too. Post as often as you want with as many questions as you need to ask.  We are here for each other and this is a supportive group.  We help through the tough times and celebrate the successes too.  Sometimes we just post to say hello and give updates.
Your meds. will help you over the bad times and when you start to feel better, don't be in a rush to stop them.  Wait until you've completed the whole program and some.  And of course, always with your doctor's knowledge and guidance.

Take good care of yourself, we do care about one another here.

Matt

I am not a moderator I am a member and have been for almost a year. I am one of the cured and I am still here because I care. I really care. If I didn't care and if I didn't know the program works I would just take my success and bugger off. We are a group with some at the same stage as you and some finished. But I will tell you right out, It won't work unless you stick it out. And you have to believe, only those that believe have a chance. I will put my time into helping you, we all will. And when it is bad we will be here for you. But like you said, you don't stick it out, you give up half way. I've seen that here and in real life. And I've seen people come back. I've seen people give up and stay on the meds. Be prepared. This is tough and time consuming and you are going to get some surprises. But if you stick it you will walk away free with the skill, knowledge, and strength to never have another panic attack. Never! you will still have anxiety and panic but it will be the normal type. The type you shrug off. Do you want it bad enough, I will put in the time with you. We all will. But please no guessing.

Start the program, it works and please stay on your medication till you don't need it. This is going to be the hardest simple thing you do and it takes time but it works. No gimmicks, no short cuts and nothing to buy, just a program that works and people who care.

Here for you
Davit.

Thanks Jason!

In my surfing I came across an article about a European study that found internet-based self help was proving beneficial for panic suffers.  I'm hoping that's right!

I'm signed on for the 12 week program and feeling confident.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,

First off, I want you to know that there is no scam here.  However, the program does require that you put in an healthy level of effort and work.

With that said, welcome to the community.

There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed an online Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

These tests may or may not be for you but they are "free".  If you have any question or concerns with our “TOOLS”, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net.  We are the Support Specialist for The Panic Center and are open to any questions or concerns you may have.

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support.
