Got water?

Samantha

I drink a litre or a bit more of plain water. The rest of the time it is black or herbal tea. About six cups a day. No soft drinks, coffee or beer. I only know of one person who drinks nothing but water, no sorry two people. One guy drinks boiled water with nothing in it. and one lady that drinks only cold water. I know quite a few people that drink three mugs of coffee at a sitting. Few people drink water with a meal and it could be because of that myth that it dilutes digestive fluids. In my case being disabled I never get enough exercise to get thirsty. It could be why I have hypertension. Even in the hospital the amount of water made available per person was not enough and in our hospital only one care aid tries to get patients to drink.

Hi Davit,

If you are not drinking enough water on a daily basis, it might be a good idea to try taking steps towards increasing your daily water intake. You don't necessarily have to start drinking 8 glasses immediately, take steps towards that as an end goal. Start by making a point of having 2 glasses of water when you wake up and trying to have a few glasses throughout the day and with each meal. If you have 2 glasses with each meal you are already at 6 glasses in the day, not too bad!

Members, how do you ensure that you are drinking enough water daily?

Water is a key component in determining the quality of our lives. It has been ranked by experts as second only to oxygen as essential for life. In Rome many centuries ago, it used to be considered a major crime to pollute any water.

The average adult body is 55-75% water.

Aside from aiding in digestion and absorption of food, water regulates body temperature and blood circulation, carries oxygen and nutrients to cells, and flushes toxins and wastes out of cells. Conversely, dehydration can lead to many ailments ranging from arthritis and joint stiffness to allergies to headaches.

Among its many benefits, water plays a major role in weight loss. It is fat-free, cholesterol-free, suppresses the appetite and enhances the metabolism of stored fats. Not drinking enough water leads to excess body fat, poor muscle tone, low digestive function, increased toxicity, and joint and muscle soreness. Even mild dehydration will decrease one’s metabolism by 3%!

It is recommended to drink at minimum 8 glasses (8 ounces each) of pure-filtered water daily. It is further suggested that for those who are overweight, add one additional glass of water for every 25 pounds that you are overweight.

Members………….how much water are you drinking daily?

Remember……..coffee and pop do not count as water intake!!
