In the car and on the freeway.

Hi Anerol:   Speaking for myself, what I would do before trying anything which caused stress/anxiety is my relaxation and breathing exercises.  I swear by those two.  They are the things which have worked for me the best.  Let's say you know of a place you have to be in a few days and you are feeling stressed about how you will fare.  You mentioned enclosed spaces. Well, I'd do my breathing ex. first, then the relaxation ex. then visualize myself in that place.  How would I get there, what does it look like, the entrance, the room itself.  What would I do there, where would I sit, or stand.  Is there a ladies' room nearby?  I could go there for a "break".  and then I would visualize myself being successful and coming home again. I would also tell myself that it's o.k. to be nervous, a lot of people are nervous, that it doesn't mean I won't be successful.  And I used to make my car a safe place, that is, I knew I could relax in the car and do breathing, or something like that.  Oh, and have a reward for myself.  A nice hot shower, a cup of hot chocolate, herbal tea, a new book/magazine. just something. hope this gives you some ideas...

Oops, did I say I have a turtle, I don't have one yet... I'd like to have one for the yard.
But thanks everyone for all of your support.
Do you have any tips on how to tackle the enclosed places? How did you get over it, Sunny?

Hi anerol,

Thank you for continuing to update us with your progress. It is great to see that you are exposing yourself to a variety of events and situations. It sounds like you are doing a good job at looking ahead into the future and thinking of your game plan. Continue to work through the program and continue your exposure work. Enjoy your accomplishments and continue sharing them with us!

Let me second sunny. Totally. You are doing very well. Just keep picking at it a bit at a time. It will all fall into place.

Anerol - on-a-roll:  You brought back some memories.  I didn't want to talk to anyone either, because I would turn beet red and then I figured they knew I was nervous - can't hide that.  Believe me with the exposure work you are doing, it gets better.  You're doing great!  You're getting better every day.  Congratulations.  I enjoy reading your progress.

Thanks Davit and Sunny. These days I feel like the reward is all these accomplishments themselves. I find it hard for me to reward myself with any other material things.
Today I was able to take care of another errand as I've posted in another forum. I am very happy. The pattern I'm seeing about myself from these exposures is that I have the most trouble when I enter the buildings and staying for a long time. I have the most trouble in enclosed places when there are people around. My problem used to be mainly getting to this point(being in a moving vehicle) but I think I am tackling this very well. My next step is how I will stay involved. Staying in the situation and being ok with myself in the enclosed places.  My anxious thoughts during these times... are that I don't want people to see me (acting weird). I feel like I become sensitive of the smell inside, and I don't want to breathe the smells or I think there may be a lack of oxygen or something. I don't really realize myself thinking this at the time, but I just know I always want to be out of the place or I hope nobody talks to me because I'm afraid I may not be able to keep up with the conversation. I don't want to interrupt them if I ever have an attack during.

Today I had another success. I was able to got to my art show. It was in the crowded down town and there was traffic on the way there, but I was still able to get there. I only stayed for a little bit but was able to see all the pieces and went home. I was contemplating if I should go or not because I was getting really overwhelmed by the idea of going.. but I knew I had to do this and I did it!! I am very tired now, so I will be back to read the rest of the forums. Good night.
