Yesterday, on a busy Saturday, I went to the grocery store with my support person. I was anxious but I still got through with it. I wasn't going to wait in line with her, but I was able to tolerate it and pulled through all the way to the end. I am going to do this every Saturday now and go get our groceries for exposure. It had been a long time since I had gone to the groceries so it was kind of exciting and fun. I also went to my neighborhood yard sale. I love yard sales, but am often afraid to get there alone. But I did it alone yesterday. Yay for me!

I love all of your understandings.
I hate it the speed we have to be on and the fact that we can't stop anywhere. Also the thought of being stuck on the highway in a jam just terrifies me! I also hate bridges and tunnels too. I also don't like it when we're driving slow but the rest of the cars are zooooming by.

Hi Girls,
I hate  fast busy highways too...Or being stuck in slow moving city traffic...we drove thru Montreal last summer..took over an hour..I wish I had some medication then...I was soooo anxious....at least I made hubby avoid the tunnels. Shudder! You are not alone with this one.

Oh, ditto on those freeways.  And I'm not even in an area where they are too big.  When we were in LA and my hubby was driving, I was thinking: WOAH!  No thanks!!!  LOL

But, yeah!  I totally agree with Sunny...those little steps are sooooo good for you.  It keeps up the can-do attitude and they all add up over time into really BIG steps!

Keep it up, Red.

I hate those freeways too and feel much better when we get off.  When we travel we also have to get off and take a break from all the traffic and just relax for a while.

Hi Anerol:  You know what?  Even if I'm o.k. driving on highways/freeways, I sometimes prefer the older roads because they are more picturesque and relaxing.  If this is what you need right now, seems o.k. to me.  Think of it in a positive way - you're getting out and about, getting your supplies.  Maybe you could wait to go on freeways until you feel a bit stronger, you're already doing exposure work in the car and shopping, etc.  I don't know too many people who like driving and being too close to those big rigs anyway, and they are so loud too.  Noise pollution is stressful too and you are probably feeling it.  I think you're doing great.  Little steps at a time are okay.

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on a while but during the weekend I was able to go downtown to pick up my art pieces. This time, though, I asked to get off of the freeway because I couldn't tolerate my anxiety. But when we got off of this unknown area, we were able to miraculously find the street of the place. And we got there safe and sound and easily taking the streets. It was nice looking at the towns we passed through instead of driving along the speed Big Rigs and traffic and obvious pollution and speed. My anxiety instantly stops once we exit. This shows how obviously it's created in my head... and also the fact that I hate freeways. Another lesson learned.

Thanks Samantha and Davit,
I do jot down the happy times too. I remember when my diary was only written when I was angry or sad, but lately, I include my happy days to remind myself that they exist too. And it is very nice.
