Expressing Yourself Creatively, Part I

Everything you but your heart in is a creation = creation= creativity. Everything is an art. Or everything can be.

Forgot to mention re: baking/cooking.  I think it is very creative.  Think of all the cake decorators - the chefs who win trophies and prizes for their original recipes and great looking food displays. Think of the chocolate competition where they  build elaborate creations.  I love to make hors d'hoerves because they look like little works of art - which is what the name means in French.  My friends don't know how I can bother with such fussy things, but I love doing it, they are so artsy and delicious and when else would I make them?  for my company of course and they do get eaten up!

In the summer time I do alot of gardening and fussing with my flowers. I can't do as much as I use to but I love the smell of the dirt when you plant your flowers or after the garden plot has been rototilled.

In the winter , I started doing paint by numbers...it doesn't sound like much but each one would take me about 1 month to complete. I order them on line from a reputable company and they always turn out very well. I have done peonies, a hummingbird and two wolves. There is still one in my closet of a racoon clinging to a tree...haven't started yet because often times my hand are a little to shaky.
When I worked at the dog grooming salon , I made two sided Christmas  scarfs to slip on the dog collars, so every pup had a nice scarf to go home with after their grooming.
I don't know if baking counts as creativity but I like that to.

Yes, in many ways.  I remember a course where participants made a mask which was supposed to represent themselves.  With this mask on, they had to pretend they were at a train station saying goodbye to someone they loved very much, whom they would never see again.  They pretended that the person was sitting at the window, then the train pulled out and the participant had to wait until the train was out of sight.  Just about all participants did not remove their masks until a moment or two afterwards as they were quite moved emotionally.

Each creation, whatever it is, is unique to that creator.  It reminds me of how unique we all are, how perceptions can differ, attitudes, cultures.   Never are two creations totally alike.

Creating and making something always gives me instant gratification and gives me some confidence because it's something i'll leave behind. But i think planting and gardening is the most rewarding because you are raising and creating life from it and you are doing good to the earth. it always makes me proud when the flowers that i've planted bloom or the veggies I've grown are in my salad! you even save money and gas too by saving the trip to the store.

Members,

Often times it can be very difficult to express ourselves out loud to ourselves or to a therapist. For this reason, some therapies are not focused on using creativity for personal expression. Art therapy can include:

•    Journaling
•    Painting
•    Water colors
•    Clay
•    Knitting or needlepoint
•    Sketching
•    Writing
•    Poetry
•    Drawing cartoons
•    Learning to play a musical instrument
•    Theatre
•    Dance classes
•    Crafting
•    Sewing
•    Composing music
•    Making a movie
•    Photography
•    Graphic Design
•    Fashion Design

Have any members had a positive experience expressing themselves creatively?
