Hi, I'm Eric and I'm new

Hi Eric,
Yes take Davit's advice of putting 'slow' in your new vocab, Mr. NY. Patience is the essential key for unlocking this situation. And don't use force or don't try to do it quickly... each step is like a delicate baby. Have you tried journaling or joting down your thoughts? Well, you can do it here too. How are you feeling today?

Hi Eric,
I'm working through  the program  too. I also worry about being fired or having my co-workers discover my disorder.  The people here all know what its like to suffer with this....have you read  some of the success stories? There is hope .You will get better. Me too!

Eric

We have all been through it. We all know the terror. None of us want anyone to ever have to go through it again. We will do all we can to help. You will get some relief shortly after starting the program. Please stick it out though to get the full effect. Caffeine doesn't cause panic it only makes it worse. You can still enjoy coffee just not when you are anxious. I limit myself to two cups of tea in the morning to get the day started and then switch to Ginger mint. Slow would be better but like you said it is New York.  Good luck. We are all here for you.

Thanks Samantha.  I am definitely going to work my way through this program. I took the tests and am now in Week 1.  I have thr printouts sitting right next to me here at my desk.  Just having them here has helped, as SO FAR, not one attack today.  Anxiety, yes, but panic attacks no.  My goal is to stop the attacks first and then figure out how to deal with the anxiety.

Sunny, you asked about time for me.  Hardly any.  There's yard stuff to do and then I'm sure most of you know what a 4-year old boy can be like.  I really do enjoy hanging out with him though, when it's just he and I.

I have stopped drinking coffee as of today.  Today I made the switch to herbal tea.  I am going to miss my caffeine though.  But I am serious enough about this that this is a change I feel I must make.

I have started taking a mile walk at lunchtime and the spend a few mins in the car doing the box breathing, etc.

I am going to try to do yoga at night.

I also have made an appointment to see a psychiatrist on May 17th.

Davit - slow?  Never heard of the word. My life is so fast paced it's insane.  Not only is my job that way, but I live in New York!

It's my goal to beat this - but I'm scared.

Thanks everyone, I can't believe you are all willing to help and listen.  You are all angels.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for sharing your story with us, you have taken a huge step in the right direction. There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed a Panic Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

These tests may or may not be for you but they are "free".  If you have any question or concerns with our “TOOLS”, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net.  We are the Support Specialist for The Panic Center and are open to any questions or concerns you may have.

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support.

Hello Eric:  Welcome Eric. Glad you found this site.  What about balance?  You work hard, are you able to relax at home?  Do you take time out just for you - or are your weekends all busy-ness and filled up with to-do things?  Do you have a hobby in which you can immerse yourself and forget about the day's travails?  How's your diet, your sleep?  Where do you think you can improve for a healthier lifestyle?  Do you drink too much coffee, eat well, get enough exercise - even just a walk around the block - you know, that sort of thing.
Being on meds. usually SSRI's,  is sometimes recommended by your doctor and o.k. in my opinion.  The meds. will help calm you enough so that you can do the CBT program here - cognitive behavioural program, which is considered very good for anxiety/stress related disorders - and learn relaxation techcniques, understand your patterns of negative thinking, your behaviour when it happens, the panic feeling, etc.  I hope you start the program and talk with your doctor about it.  You don't have to be on meds. but it is a choice you can make with your doctor's adivce.  After a few months, you can taper off, again with your doctor's knowledge and guidance.  Good luck Eric.  We are here listening, this is a safe place to vent, be angry, sad, whatever.  We care.

Hello Eric.

Welcome. I am going to ask you to do something that is probably foreign to you. I am going to ask you to do something SLOW. See what I mean. I would bet in your job you have to grab an idea and run with it. Beat the competition!. In this though you are the competition. No matter what is causing your anxiety you are still the reason for it. It still has to go through you. You have started to have unrealistic thoughts. This is how it starts. (for every one) You are not dying. You do not have to change jobs. Your family is Ok. Never mind how hard you worked to get where you are. That is negative.( a word you are going to hear a lot of) Do you like your job? If you want to keep it you had better find a reason to like it. (positive) Have you had a check up. Make sure there is nothing wrong with you and then quit thinking about it. It is hard to think positive if you just don't know for sure. ( especially for some one who deals in facts.) Burn out is a word I'm sure you are familiar with. Dwelling on the negative (there's that word again) aspects of your life will feed the fire and bring burn out closer. Are you good at focussing. Yes, you probably have to be. Focus on the positive. Focus on all the good things in your life, not all you have to do to keep it.
If you live in a world where every thing is black or white, taking medication will just make it gray and confuse the issues. So will alcohol. Caffeine can be a two edged sword. If you run on coffee try to run on less, and none (or very little) on your time off. This whole panic cure is about burying negative thoughts under so much positive that they can't surface. Then there are the helpers to make it easier. Relaxation skills, (box breathing etc.) coping skills, (self talk etc.) Calming skills. (herbal teas, caffeine reduction etc.) And last is medication if needed so you can do the rest. If you are a take charge guy, then here is a project to throw your self at. Do the program and get better, because you will. But there are no short cuts, it is already pared down. You must follow each step in order and you must go slow. What is twelve weeks compared to losing every thing you worked for. Now again welcome to the group, come and be part of it. Vent your pain here and let it go. Vent your anger here and let it go. Talk of your accomplishments (work even) and let us share your joy. Writing here is the first step on the road to getting better. It is probably the biggest step but it does get you on the road. And look how many friends you have already willing to share and help. Talk to us, it is good therapy.

You people are so kind, I have tears rolling down my cheeks, literally.

Anerol, you asked about pressure.  You're right - My life IS perfect, except for pressure.  My job is SUPER high stress.  I have to be "on" for 9 hours straight and there is no let up.  I am responsible for a business that does well in excess of $100M.

I'm pretty confident that its the stress of the job that got me here, but I have these issues now even when I''m not there, or on weekends.

I'm terrified that I am going to learn I need to change jobs as I have worked SO hard to get to where I am.

Welcome!
Yes you CAN beat that anxiety!  Take those little steps and soon you will be feeling more and more confident.  It takes a bit of time, so be patient with yourself and remember that with each successful moment, no matter how small it may seem at the time, you will be moving forward.
Just coming here and posting means that you are already working on it!  Hey, that counts as a success! :-)

Hi Eric,
Welcome to the group and program.  I was reading your post and want to congratulate you on your decision to start the program and post here with us.  It takes a lot of strength to come here and post and you were strong enough to do that.  So  you see, you are strong and I know you can beat this anxiety and panic.  Post often and start reading and working the program and you will get better.  I am sure of it.  I didn't know if I could get better when I joined in January and I am beating it and I am getting better with each and every day.
