Hey shadowkins,

Don't you just hate when your guardian angel gets a little sleepy...Mine does at times too! That's when I reach out to friends and read posts on here!

Shadowkins:  I'm thinking of you and saying a prayer for you.  We will support you through this.  keep posting and hope you have a great day.
Yes, Shadow is real cute.  I had a spaniel before, white and liver.  The sweetest dog with the biggest heart, named Charlie.  He is in my rose garden now with my other dog, named Daisy.  She was a mixed terrier and beagle (I think).  Both rescue dogs.  Daisy lived to 18 yrs. and Charlie was only 11 yrs.  Charlie was almost blind and deaf at the end and having seizures more than once a week.  I can't have cats because I am allergic.

Davit:  Let us know when your surgery is, we all want to support you and say a prayer too.  I think taking a diazapam for one day is not even a drop in the bucket.  As you say, nothing to worry about.  On the day of my surgery last summer, the hospital gave me an ativan because my BP was so high.  I don't usually take anything.  I figure it's all part of the hospital visit, then back to normal. p.s. I like your pic.

Yes, he's my old man ( 11 years old ). We use to walk 2 miles a day but he and I both suffer from bad hips so our walking days are over but thanks for noticing my dear Shadow.
I have been doing my best to keep busy around the house. Today it's raining cats and dogs but hopefully soon I will be able to get outside and get busy with my flower beds and garden. It takes me a lot longer to do what I want to but what the heck I don't think the plants will mind.

As always you can make things seem so much less complicated.
I'm sorry you have had to go through so much in your life with your
RAand I do admire your tenacity and courage.
I haven't been on this forum very long but I do see you a my rock of gibraltar.
I am planning on calling my surgeon and getting him up to speed on what has happened and trying to rebook the surgery date , the original date was cancelled because both my husband and I were battling a nasty cold. My husband still has remnants of it and that was end of February.
It may take my a little while to get the courage to call  the surgeon but I know it needs to be done .

Thanks again my friends

shadowkins.

Just some information you might be interested in. I have had to go for a few operations in a depressed and anxious state. Since I had no choice I just took The benzodiazapene when I needed them and did it. I admit I floated through them in a doped state and had to do withdrawal after which wasn't pleasant but not as bad as spending time in the hospital un-drugged would have been. The knee replacements were worth it even with all the complications I had that are not normally there. I have two more operation coming up some time but both just day surgeries but I plan on doing both under the influence of valium just for the comfort of knowing there will be no chance of panic and withdrawal will not be a problem because it will only be the one day each. Am I worried, yes I am. Am I thinking about it, a bit but not much because I have a plan and am going with some one else. I have to since I won't be allowed to drive those days. How am I getting through this? Simple, they are in the future and right now the future doesn't count. When they become the present I will use the valium. AND, the day after they become the past and the past doesn't count and will be forgot. I think I could do them without the valium but why create more worry for a one time use. That is how it was meant to be used, just as a help to get over the hump. Your right I worked hard to get here and I'm sure sunny did too, but you know it got easier as it went along. Today I am just sort of resting because Yesterday was a long day but I intend to go out and weed that little rock garden in my ativar. I have lots of ponds but the birds still like the bird bath.
I know once your surgery is over you will have this burst of relief. So please try to look at it as a good thing. Just one more step on the road to recovery.

Here for you always.

Hi shadowkins,

I am glad that you had a better day yesterday. You have received some really great feedback from your fellow members about why the mornings seem to be tougher for you. Know your moments of weakness and work around them. Get more things done in the afternoon when you feel more energized.

Your avatar is cute! Is that your dog? Are you able to take him/her for short walks?

Thanks Davit and Sunny123,

I can't deny that I feel useless because the minute I do more, I pay for it with pain. Sometimes I think I've been depressed for awhile and the drugs at the time simply hid it...who knows.
I was hoping that I could recover ( if that is the right term) from this anxiety before I have to have surgery.....I must face that sooner or later, I know. That in itself is a major concern.
You guys just seem to have it together and I know you worked hard to get that way too.

Thanks a bunch again...nice avatar, Davit.

Hi shadowkins.

Pain and anxiety go hand in hand but not quite together. Pain can be distracting enough to hold off the anxiety, but most times it brings on anger. When depression hits it is usually as the pain subsides, and goes shortly after the pain goes. It is that why me thing. Arthritis and anxiety go together. Mostly it is that feeling useless thing and goes once a person gets mobile and feels less useless. Elevated BP is a natural reaction to pain and is often up in the morning if a person has trouble sleeping because they can't get comfortable. Pain killers work by dilating the blood vessels so more blood and Oxygen get through. If you don't have a head ache exercise will feed more blood and Oxygen to the damaged joint. It is increased blood flow that makes a joint hot. The heat can also make the joint feel good by deadening the pain sensors.

Hi shadowkins: Last summer I was told at the hospital that when I was in a lot of pain, my BP went up and then of course, my anxiety went up.  So there might be a connection to pain and some anxiety when your hip acts up.  Sometimes if I've had a bad day, the next morning I might question what this day will be like and think negative thoughts and that may bring on anxiety to know I will face the same difficulties.  This is where positive thinking and smiling helps, and relaxation exercises.  I've heard lots of body stretching in the morning when you get out of bed is supposed to start the day right.

First of all I must let you all know that today was a better day ...in the afternoon anyway. I am wondering why the mornings are  tougher to handle? Does anyone else experience that too.

My nights are usually shorter than I would like...me who use to be such a snoozer!!!  But with the weather being nasty , my hip has decided to act up more than normal. So I was wondering if that may be why I feel more stressed in the a.m. because I'm tired. There is no way I can catch a nap in the afternoon...my body just refuses but I do stretch out to rest my hip.

Interested in what your take is.
