Welcome to this site! I know what you mean... I was just thinking how 2 years is almost nothing. I got my anxiety disorder when I was 22. Before that I was able to do a lot of normal things, so I had a lot of difficulty to accept it. You did a great job at posting here... you will start to see where all of this is coming from. See, you have it in you, don't give up! I've learned that just by blabbering here, made me realize a lot of things about myself, so keep venting, writing, expressing.
Good morning. I'm back. Hating panic gives it attention and attention gives it power. On the other hand accepting it and ignoring it (to the best of your ability) takes the power from it and makes it shrivel up. How do you do this? It is like stubbing your toe on a step. You accept that it happened and that it is now in the past and there is nothing you can do about that and get on with it. You would not dwell on the fact you stubbed your toe, so why do you do it with the panic. Why give it this power over you. You don't have to know where it came from right now. That is for later. Right now you need to learn how to relax and cope with it. How to slow down the fast heart beat and other physical symptoms that the fear feeds on. Once you can do this you can look for what is the trigger. You may get good enough at ignoring the panic that it is no longer necessary to find the trigger which may not even exist anymore so you might not be able to find it anyway. The program works, but it takes time. Can you accept and ignore the panic for the twelve or so weeks it takes to do the program? A small amount of time compared to living with panic for the rest of your life.
Good Morning A90 and welcome to the forums. I find the CBT program one of the best therapies for panic and anxiety. I hope you try it and pls. post as often and as much as you want here. That's what it's for. There's always someone listening and writing. Good luck. Remember, you are not alone. Read some of the posts, past and present. There is real hope for everyone.
You can definitely get rid of the panic and lead a normal productive life. In fact if done right you can get to the point where you can't believe you ever had panic. More on this subject later.
Hi, I'm also new to the programme. I've been suffering from panic attacks for the last two years (I actually can't believe it's been this long). I hate how it makes me feel about myself and the feeling of utter helplessness that it leaves me with. The scary thing is that Ive no idea where its coming from and that makes it harder for me to deal with it. I don't know what to do, I want to get better from this, as I'm young and want to enjoy life as it happens to me and not watch it pass me by. It seems so hard though and I really don't know if I have it in me..Even just seeing that post now seems odd, but I needed to put it out there.
Welcome to our support community. The program is a great place to start for information and therapy. Working with your therapist is also a great support. take the anxiety test and give a copy to your therapist, it can help better assess your situation for both of you.
yo are not alone and there are many members that can lend support and knowledge. Feel free to vent, ask questions and lend support as well.
This is a good place to start, It is also a good place to finish but it will take you at least 12 weeks and you should leave a new person. The program works. Some take more some take less time. You work at your own rate. There are good people here who are going through the same thing as you but in various stages. Stick with us and you will see them get better and they will see you get better. Post often. Post anything. Vent, laugh or just talk, we are here for you. Think of us as on line group therapy. There are answers here you just have to ask.
