Hello Red. I just got off the phone and thought I'd just stop in. I have Agoraphobia. I say have because I don't like crowded noisy places but for me it is more grocery stores than malls. Malls seem to have more space. I want you to know you may always have this problem. But you will learn to live with it and even not notice it. BUT. It is like an alcoholic and booze. If you let the noise etc. bother you it will. You can definitely learn to overcome it and live a normal life. But for a while it will try to creep in when you are not looking. That you have to learn to deal with and this is the place to learn it. It can be done I am proof of that and so is sunny and possibly some of the others we haven't heard from in a while. I have watched people go from wrecks to functional and then disappear so who knows, I think they must be Ok. Right now I just want you to know that you can do and be anything you want if you just work at it. And believe me it is a good feeling. For a year I had panic attacks every night at around 2 AM. I would wake up thinking something disturbing, usually claustrophobic but not always. Some lasted for three hours. The last bad one I had was gone before I could write it down. I have control over them. I no longer have to avoid places I don't like. There are good people here and they will help you. You can ask me anything you like and I will get back to you as soon as I have time. One thing. Read the program and go slow. It is all important, even the things that may not make sense. They are there for a reason. What you will do over the next 12 weeks (or more) is retrain your brain to think the way you want it to. So you can go into a noisy place or what ever and have it not bother you. You will also learn to relax when the panic starts to crowd in. Now I leave you in capable hands because I need sleep.

Peace
Davit.

1.When ever I have to leave my house and interact with new people. 2. Mostly anywhere that is noisy and loud with a large crowd like a in door mall with a bunch of loud, rude, ill mannered, and unruly people.  My nervous system just can't take all the noise and stimulus, all the constant chatter of so many people at once all talking a once.  I grew up in a time when people were taught manners and were able to act civilized.  I really don't do well in these type of situations and try to go out when their are not to many other people out and about.

I am so happy for you Davit it must be wonderful to be free.  I am new here and just starting to work on my problems and I am also drug free.  It is very good of you to help other people.  Remember to take of yourself too and get enough rest.

Hi sunny

Boy, it is late and I am so tired. I have volunteered to be available for people to call when they panic or if they just need to talk. And you know that panic attacks often happen at night so I guess I will be living and sleeping with my cell phone. I am doing this for two reasons. When I broke my leg and got staph the community took care of my home and animals while I spent half a year in the hospital. Also I want to do this because I think I can do some good and having been through it I have a first hand knowledge of what they are going through. I'm not going to kid myself. The strain could set me back but right now I think I can do it. Talk about exposure. Not only my own exposure but others as well. This is the weirdest feeling to be panic free and do any thing I want that my body will physically let me. I haven't been this free in years. Why am I telling this to you, you already know what it feels like. I have a sceduled call in half an hour and this one can last for hours so I have just enough time for a cup of tea and to fill in my journal. Yep. I am still doing that. Why not hey. It works.  All the best to you and every one here

Davit.

PS. Still drug free.

It is an excellent oportunity to help people and it will help me too.  In case any one is interested today is day three of a normal life without a twinge of anxiety or panic. Monday is my big Exposure Day test, and I am actually looking forward to it. Tomorrow is a trip to the doctor and some minnie exposure. Wednesday I had a smiling contest with my therapist. I think we talked about every thing but my panic since I don't have any. Good luck everybody, I will try to stop in when I can.

A very happy Davit.

Davit, congrats on the opportunity to help you in your community! I hope it goes well for you. But please don't forget about us, come back and visit :)

Ladybird, good work on practicing those breathing exercises. Let us know how they help you when you try using them in new situations or in situations that cause you to feel more anxious than usual.

I get anxious in situations where I feel vulnerable it doesn't have to be anywhere specific I can feel the anxiety rising for whatever reason and then I focus internally which doesn't help I've been doing the breathing exercises regularly so it becomes more natural to see if this approach gives me confidence when going into new situations or if I feel it rise any other time that I can keep it down as low as possible.

Almost nothing bothers me any more so I don't have any answers. I have been asked for help in my comunity so I may be gone for a while. Just so every one knows I didn't just bail out. I will see if I can send people here. This is a good program.

Davit.
