I post over at the DC site as well since I have coexisting issues. Just to follow up, I was taking Effexor for panic before and I think it would be smart to go back on. Why did I go off? Long story. When I was taking it before I bacame manic on it and I wrecked my life. I tried different AD's but they dont work for panic. So Im going to ask to go back on Effexor.

I know I have a lot of work to do on myself, and Im on that path. For years I was in the catering business, where everything had to be done yesterday and nothing was ever enough for anyone. I was the guy that got it done and I think it tooks its toll on me.

Im leaning towards the SNRI because it helped before and I have issues with depression that coexist as well. I heard about the tricyclics and I am investigationg that as well. I still have benzos in my car from before. I had them, but never used them. I dont like them and dont want to, but the just knowing thing is it. Thanks

Lance - I hear the frustration in your posts.  Is there a reason why you are only considering and researching the SSRI and Tricycs?  I know that the benzos are more addictive, but I find them to be very effective for quick relief.  Sometimes you just need to free your mind from the torturous dialogues that you have with yourself.  I take Lexapro as a daily med, but also have a benzo for use as needed.  It is comforting to have it, even though I don't take it much (I've been working on my same first 30 pills for the last 3 years).   Also, I find it so helpful to simply be mindful of the present....to concentrate on my breathing, and think about today.  Realize that the past is gone and the future is not guaranteed.  All we have are today's precious moments and we shouldn't let ourselves give those moments in time up to worry and self hate.  I know, it is easier said than done, but you should try - and be forgiving and compassionate with yourself when things don't work out according to your plan.

Lance,

That is beautiful.  You made me tear up a bit!   They are so lucky to have such a loving, proud father.  One day they will realize that.  You are also lucky to recognize how proud you are o your kids.  You still have so much time to tell them that!  I know you will find a way to do that.  Stay strong Lance.

Thanks im trying. I have a lot to be there for. Found a pic of my kids, posted it on friends of SSC, so I can show them off. I may not be a big part of their lives right now, because of all this. But I sure am proud of them and I Love them so much. I miss them a lot too.

Lance,

Don't apologize, when reading over my response using the word seriously wasn't well thought out !  Sorry again.

Mania can get out of hand especially when the individual does not understand it or know what to look for. It is terrible that people's lives can be changed by mental illness.  When it is not understand by the individual and their families there can be a lot of heart ache.  But know that actions you took when you were going through mania was not you, it was the mental illness.  You are now armed with knowledge to help when you are going through a manic state and that is amazing.  I love hearing you say that things will get better.  I know they will and it is good to know that you are able to recognize that even when you are going through such a hard time.  Keep up the great work Lance!

Thank you, sorry too. I tend to overreact too. Plus, Im tired and frustrated and My meds are being adjusted as well. So Im a little cranky. LOL

In the past I did a lot of research. When I had my first panic attack, one day driving to work, I had no idea what it was, thus bagan the meds, research and trials. The effexor was the best, so Im thinking it may be a wise switch. I only question it because I heard the tricyclics were good.

Its a real shame I didnt accept my origional diagnosis of bipolar. Today I know what went wrong. After my panic attack I was prescribed SSRI's which in turn caused mania. After a bad episode I was prescribed mood stailizers, I rejected that diagnosis and quit taking the meds. I didnt want to be on them. But after some time, bouts of mania got out of control. At the time I had no idea what was happeneing. I call it the crazies. Up for days, washing my car at 4am etc. etc. Then spending money and alcohol and then before I knew it, my life as I knew it was ruined.

Today I know why and what to watch for. I just need to get through this last part and things will be better.

Hi Lance,

Sorry poor word choice with seriously.  I just wanted to convey I was impressed by all the research work you have been doing.  It is very responsible that you are doing that.  You have always been very proactive with your health and that is very impressive.

I wish I could advise you on which medication will work best for you but I can't.  Try not to get too overwhelmed by this choice either way you will be moving forward learning what works and what doesn't.  The program can benefit you but if you are too overwhelmed make a plan for when you will be able to start.  Or break the program down into manageable sections.  Keep us updated on how you are doing.

I have been on the internet for hours trying to figure this out and I am going nuts. I just dont know what to think. I know the effexor worked, but was it right? I dont know that the depression properties were right. Now I dont know how I will respond to a different med. I really need something to work, soon. I know I wont rest until I figure this out. Part of what I learned here is I am OCD. I was up till 3am reading. trying to decide. I thought I had it, but now Im not sure. Im going nuts. Wait I already did that.

Oh ya, plus if I feel overwhelmed about just doing one program ie:depression along with the stuff I have coming up, do I try this one still too? I just dont know what to focus on.
