Said it to you many times DB but will say it again . You are quite incredible and can see you really being somewhere in the future .

Hi Dark

Being articulate is an aspect of intelligence so don't sell yourself short (Neither should Churchill).

There is a difference anyway with intelligence and that sort of reasoning and wisdom. They say that the part of the frontal cortex that deals with decision making and cognitive ability is only fully developed at 25. So think smart you will be then.

I agree, however, ignorance is bliss. I saw a guy the other day sleeping on a highway. I watched him walk to where the tar begins and he just lay down and took a snooze. He seemed quite sober (can't really tell). I just thought to myself- wow- if only I could be that free. Sure it's a stupid thing to do. But he just isn't even worried about it. I can't even sleep in my bed let alone on a shoulder lane of a highway with cars zooming by at 120km/h.

A phrase I heard somewhere summarises the situation quite well. "A man can either be happy or live a life of meaning- but never both".

Ok well. It wasn't some literary giant or a WW2 leader- it came from Hero's. Lol!

Hi DB...

I like Diva want you to know that your words have touched and inspired me many times and often give me things to reflect upon.  You have risen above much more than the average person .... which is why you sir are not average... but someone who inspires greatness and we are privileged to have you in our "circle of friends".....

Take care DB...

Wow Darkblue,

I second what Breanne had to say! You are and inspiration and you should feel proud of yourself. I find that you are learning such important life skills so early! I think it is wonderful. All those skills will be a foundation for al the things to come in your life! I am sorry you are such a rough time from such a young age. I am amazed at how well you handle yourself.

I do want to say though that I want you to be able to come here and vent and whatever else you need. Just because we think you are wise and inspirational and all that does not mean we thing you are made out of stone. I wouldn't want you to feel pressured to put up a front for us! I think that even in our venting we partake in a vital exchange of wisdom and comfort and support. So please continue to share with us in the good and bad times!

I also want to thank you for your kind words to me. I love sharing with you. I feel as though you have let me get to know you too and I feel privileged. Your words hit home with me too and help me think and reflect.

Here is to sharing more support and wisdom!

Darkblue,

You are an amazing person. You have managed to persevere through a lot, and at a young age. You should feel extremely proud of yourself, and embrace your wonderful ability to be so articulate!
Thanks for sharing with us darkblue, you are a true inspiration

Why thank you, kind sirs (and madams)!

Winston Churchill once said that people wrongly perceived him as intelligent because he was well articulated.  I feel the same.

I've had this same 'cognitive age' (per se) since I was 13.  My father passed away and I took on the role of 'father' to my younger brother.  I had to be strong for him and my mother, who was suffering depression and panic attacks.  I would cook, clean, look after my brother while my mother worked - all while trying to be a normally functioning 13 year old.

Things didn't quite work like that, and I lasted 2 years of the charade before being diagnosed with major depressive disorder.  Afterwards, my mother, who saw me as 'her rock' - disowned me.

I left home at 15.  Left school and went to work.  Got my own flat, and have built up all I have now.  For which I have enormous pride in myself.  4 years ago I was homeless.  Today I have a good job, a great flat and prospects.

I think what I'm trying to say is that my ability to empathise and articulate those empathies to others makes me look intelligent.  I don't feel particularly so, but who does?  What I really want is to be at university.  To be a 'normal' 19 year old.

There are times when I'm feeling particularly dark (no pun intended on my name) where I wish I was ignorant.  I'm sure that sounds farmiliar to you all.

And I forgot to thank you Diva.  I feel as though I know you, and your words always hit home with me.
Thank you.

Sorry to barge in off-topic, but I would have never guessed you were 19, Dark.  Your intellect is well beyond your years, brother.  Cheers!
