Well I met with my Doctor today and we discussed many options as far as medications. I am not going to go with a maoi its just to risky. However we are going to switch my xanax to extended release since the effect will last longer. The maoi has so many things that you just cant take or eat with it or you risk the possibilty of death. Anyway on with the battle. Im sticking with the effexor xr 225mg daily and am going to see if the xanax xr will help...

Well, keep us posted but be sure to follow the diet very strictly, there can be very adverse reaction if you don't. Anyway, glad you are making headway in finding what is right for you :) -Diva

OK WELL EFFEXOR XR 225MG IS BETTER THAN PAXIL IN MY CASE. I AM THINKING OF GOING TO A MAOI TO NIP PANIC ATTACKS PERIOD. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A VERY RESTICTED DIET WITH THESE MEDS BUT WHAT A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR NO PANIC ATTACKS. IM HAVING A CONSULTATION WITH MY DOCTOR THURSDAY AND I WILL UPDATE EVERYONE. HE SAYS WITH THE MAOI THERE IS NO PANIC AT ALL WOW.....IF THIS IS THE CASE THEN THE DIET SHOULD BE A BREEZE.

Just wanted to do another update. Im still at the 225 mg dose of effexor xr daily. I have been having more days with no panic attacks at all which is great. But on the days that I do have panic it seems there more intense. I was averaging one attack(1-10 about a 3) a day or more with mild anxiety all day. Now Im averaging about three attacks(1-10 about a 6) a week and the daily anxiety has dropped. I think the effexor is working alot better for me than the paxil did and my doctor is going to go on up on my dosage next week. Anyway I will keep posting results.

I too have been taking Effexor xr and have just recently had my dose increased to 150 mg/day. I spoke with my dr after having had a panic attack last week. my first one since starting the Effexor and am hoping that the increase in dosage will help me out, as we are currently under a wind warning for tomorrow (one of my triggers) I'm glad that the Effexor is working for you!!

Hi fireman, I've been on Effexor ( or venlafaxine as its called in the u.k ) for some time, and since taking it I haven't had any panic attacks. I do suffer from depression too, and so far has also kept this at bay, so helping me feel more positive about everything, including the thought of actually having a panic attack. I guess different medications work for different people. Don't know u.k names for Paxil or Xanax, so can't say about those, but I had tried quite a few others before this one, so good luck i hope it works for you too
