Can I get over it?

Hi Paula, The chewing helps me to distract the feeling of faint / collapse. I also take something to drink with me and my mobile. Perhaps you can do that. At the beginning I had problems to go out as well and I just went outside and went up and down the street. Just as long as I could see the house. I think that all the neighbours considered it to be funny but, well. Perhaps you have something like a mail box or a telephone box where you can walk, or a shopping window. It's a starter. By the way, I really thought long about the post of Vale (you read it too) where someone described how he got over it, just by accepting that he can't "win". You know, I had given a lot of things in the past 13 years (first the eating disorder) and I just want to live again. I am thinking, please dear panik attack get as hard as possible, you can only destroy the "little voice inside" but not my body. And it works, truly it does. Okay, it's one day but well. Wish you all the best

Hi Ute, Thanks for the great advise!! What is the chewing gum for? Does it keep you distracted? I'm just curious. It is a good idea to have him follow me in the car. I just wonder if I should try just "sitting outside" first? I do walk in the house to a dvd. I just miss being outside. I did go outside Thursday, but haven't been out since. I will have to force myself to an appointment to see my therapist this Thursday and then the doctor on Friday. My husband has to drive me, but at least I'm going and I think that's a big step! :) I get terrible panic up to the day I go to the doctor, but the day I leave the panic is unbearable. I'm just going to keep trying. I can do this and so can you!! YAY!! :) :) Love, Hugs & Happiness, Paula

Hi Paula, Thanks a lot for the list. I had also difficulties to go out alone, esp. at the beginning. I took chewing gums with me and ask my boyfriend to walk with me only 500 metres. It really helpes (I knew that my boyfried would be able to bring me back to the car carrying and I could always see the car where felt safety). Perhaps this could help you? Ute

Hi Crispi!! I love your positive attitude!! You have already won a huge victory by defeating your eating disorder!! CONGRATULATIONS!! I think your list sounds fantastic!! My list is: To be able to go outside (at LEAST with my husband) To start taking walks again To make all of my scheduled appointments without having my husband call and cancel. To stop being afraid to make phone calls. And the biggest one of all.... To be able to leave, by myself, without extreme fear. I know that's a long list and believe me it could be so much longer. I know that this program will and is helping me. I have faith in it!! Best of luck to you!! E-mali me anytime!! Love, Hugs & Happiness, Paula

Hi, I have quite a history of "mental illness" - 12 years eating disorder and since 1,5 years panik attacks. I had a burnout / breakdown last year in October and since then I have been struggleing to get "normal" again. Of course everyone has a different definition of what is being normal: for me it is: 1. Playing once again football 2. Do what I want without fearing a panik attack 3. Go out running 4. Have a fullfiling job which is also challenging 5. Being healthy 6. Accept myself I don't know what your lists are (would be really interesting). I am so fed up being sick and really hope that I can look back one time and say - hey, well done gal, you did a really good job - I am proud of you (so far I have managed to eat three times a day, increase weight and eating ice-cream, relish good food - I am soooo proud). Good to know that there a people out there!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot for all your help. :)
