anxiety & sleep disorder

Hi, I've had insomnia for over 15 years and never sought help for it until recently as it has finally taken toll on my body -- one theory is that the sleep deprivation may have aided in the CAUSE of my panic disorder. I esocnd the advice to looking to a naturepath for help. There are many supplements that can help calm the mind/body and help prepare for sleep, but should be taken under the supervision of your doctor as they can have side effects as well, just not along the addictive lines of ativan and other sedating prescritions. I am unlucky in that I am allergic to many things, including many natural sleep aids like valerian and 5-HTP which are both known to be useful, as is melatonin. Peraps you can go to a sleep clinic so they can observe you -- also keeping a sleep diary for 2 weeks can help both you and your doctor better understand your sleep habits and such. Hope this helps... I'm searching too! :)

Richy, Welcome to the Panic Center! Start working through the program. Perhaps learning to control your anxiety will help. A few tips for sleep disturbances: * Try getting up & going to bed at the same time every night. * Exercising no less than five hours before bed may help release anxiety, tension and tire you enough before bedtime. * Consult your doctor, pharmacist or a naturopath on natural alternatives for sleep disturbances. They have a wealth of knowledge to share. Our members will be along soon to share their experiences. Keep us posted, Danielle _________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hello I am new to this group and would like to discribe my personal ordeal. I have always been told that my sleep disorder is atributed to my personnal anxiety attacks. I have the fast pacing heart beat with the feeling of groginess and everything associated with sleep depriviation. These symptoms I have on a usual basis like 2-3 times yearly which last anywhere from 1 to several weeks. This time around I am trying to deal with this sleep deprevation without any type of prescribed drugs. In the past I took Ativan for years on a regular basis, but found it very hard to quit this vicious cycle. This time around I started taking Gravol to help me sleep but again the side effects are hard on my system therefore lately I have been taking nothing, but the insomnia is very hard to deal with. I don,t know how many of you in cyberland have experienced simular symptoms. I would like to hear from you and what helped conquer this anxiety without sleep.
