effexor

I've been taking Effexor XR for about 9 years now.  To try to keep the side effects of missing a dose to the minimum I take half in the am and half in the pm instead of all at once (with the okay of my Dr). If I miss a dose (which is really only 1/2 the day's dose) I start to feel sick and achey and lightheaded; if I miss two (the full day's worth) I feel absolutely horrible (like the flu) and get emotional.  I've gotten much better at not missing doses :)

HI all, Wow this seems like such a great site!! I"m glad I found it. I've done really well on Effexor (I've been on it maybe 3 years now). But I definitely relate to missing a dose and feeling crappy. Effexor has such a short half-life. My husband and I are hoping to have a baby so I am decreasing the dose while increasing prozac (under the supervision of my psychiatrist). Apparently prozac is safer for pregnancy. I was sure it was going to be absolutely miserable and I waited weeks to get the courage to do it-- but I feel fine! The withdrawal wasn't there! (of course, that was my reaction, everyone can react differently). :)

This is the second time I've done this but I forgot to refill my prescription on Friday for over the weekend and went two days withtut taking it. The first time was so bad - panic attacks were off the charts. this time I did a little better - I'm back at work and took my pill when I got in - but the anxiety and panic is killing me right now. I can;t function - I can;t even see straight and I'm here at my desk freaking out. I don't know what to do! Okay I took a walk and breathed into a bag and I've calmed down. What a rough morning!

Maggie, If it makes you feel better, we invite you to write as much as you need to. As moderators we cannot advise you on your medications. We recommend that you consult your doctor as tolerance is possible and withdrawal symptoms are also possible when ceasing the medication abruptly. Only your doctor should advise you on how to decrease or increase your dose. Be safe. Danielle ________________________ The PC Support Team

Has anyone here ever tried ativan and it seemed to make things worse? For the most part, ativan has been a God sent to me (although I seldom use it). I felt the need to take it today and I usually take 0.5mg but took a touch more than that today. I did okay for the first few hours (I kept busy), but after taking a bath I felt much worse. I don't know, I just felt unsure of myself and pretty scared. Then when I got out of the tub my boyfriend and I had an argument. At this point, I seriously felt like I was going crazy in my head. I felt emotional and at moments, like I needed to get out of my own body. It was all too much. Who knows maybe between ruminating here and there, and misconstruing certain feelings from the sedative as me going insane instead, well, maybe that was enough to make me feel crazy in my head. I just thought that once you take it, you are good to go for most of that day. When I stopped and got busy, things got better and felt more normal again. I am just curious if anyone else has had bad experiences off their ativan before? Or if you know if stress or ruminating can cause you to panic in your head but not in your body (since you are on a sedative), which as a result makes you feel even more loopy? I really thought I needed to go to the hospital tonight because I just felt SO high and scared and convinced I was losing it or that this is what mania is (one of my greatest fears). Do you think maybe its simply too much focusing or worrying on my behalf? I dont know how to stop obsessing when I am so aware all the time now, and so introspective. Now that the ativan is wearing off I am feeling like I am slowly coming back to myself again. I really didn't think you can begin to feel messed up as well when on these benzo's. Any responses would be much appreciated, as always. Sorry for writing so much, but it makes me feel better sometimes to let my concerns out. Thank you all so much.

Yes, I posted on another thread, just five minutes ago, that I had a whopper of a panic attack when I forgot to take my meds. I felt better when I took one dose of my meds. I also think I felt better because I was able to realize what had happened to me. Tess

I just started effexor xr after 7 yrs of paxil 30 to 60 mgs a day. The reason I started effexor xr because it blocks the norepi. which is like adrenaline so I figured it would be great. Less hyperness during a attack. I've been on effexor xr for about 8 days now with no side effects yet. Im taking 30 mg of paxil and 75 of effexor xr and 6 mg of xanax a day. This med is about the closest you can get to a maoi inhibitor so Im hoping this helps my severe panic and agoraphobia.

I love it here!! i have added some of you to my CBT Buddies but have noticed that noone is ever there! This is a place where we can chat about what is going on and not have to leave messages here which i love to leave comments here but sometimes i would like to chat with people that know what i am going threw lets try and use the CBT buddies some i have down loaded it but never have used it and im looking forward to doing so!!! about effexor i have been on it for almost 2 years now i find that it helps some i wish it would do more but im finding out as i go farther into this program that alot of what happens depends on me so im hoping when things calm down as they have been here lately i may try to get off effexor but only with the help of my doctors but as for now that is not a goal!! hey everyone, I too am on effexor. I have been on it for 3 years. the withdrawls are crazy. My goal is to also be off of it by 2007. when I miss a dose I get tunnel vision and very anxious. I really worry about how it effects me and my body. I feel like I'm addicted to it, but it's not supposed to be an addictive medication. the withdrawls scare me and that's why I havn't attempted to go off of it yet. If you are planning to quit taking the meds, make sure you do it properly and talk to your doctor. I know you have to gradually reduce your dose over a long period of time. Take care.
