Thank you! As time goes on does your mind stop screaming for a drink? Because even though I haven’t had one my mind is still screaming for me to one! ??

EJM715 and Sabastian,

You're both doing awesome and you should be proud.  Everyday that you can NOT do what your mind is screaming for you to do is an accomplishment.  I know you both probably have a plan for the night and that's good.  The longer you stay alcohol free the more you'll realize there are so many things to do to occupy your time that was once spent drinking.

Great job and keep it up!

Good Morning! I did I! Got through another night without alcohol! On day 5 today of having nothing & every day I’m feeling better. Still concerned about the weekend but as I said before trying to take it one day at a time. Having a plan for the evening really helps. I would also love to lose some weight & already feel better & notice a time difference since I’m not bloated from drinking. Thank you for all the support, this page has been a huge help! ??

Thank you for asking ?? I’m having gingerale and popcorn tonight. I am honestly hoping to moderate and be able
to have more control unless that won’t work for me :( I appreciate you asking so much!

Thank you!! ????
Honestly  I’m not sure, I would like to moderate but I’ve been feeling so good & proud these past few days after not having anything abstaining completely may be the best thing for me.

EJM715, that's a great plan for tonight.  Having a plan for what will fill your time always helped me.  Thinking about not feeling awful the next day was good too. ;)

Sabastian, how is your night so far?

EJM715 and Sabastian, what are your goals?  Are you looking to moderate your drinking or give it up completely?

Julie, Hello!!  Congratulations to you as well.  I've thought of you when I come back to this site and hoped all was well.  Great hearing from you !

Thank you so much!! This site has definitely helped me get past the first few days. I’m eating popcorn & drinking seltzer tonight & reminding myself how good I’m going to feel in the morning with another day alcohol free tomorrow! ??

Welcome EJM715 and Sabastian!
Great news that you are both supporting each other and hanging in there alcohol free. I really found that committing to making that a priority in the early days was essential for me. I went to informal social events organized with drinks of my own if I could so that I always had something of my choice in my hands. I didn’t explain a lot to people at the beginning, I just said that I wasn’t drinking that night or I was the designated driver or whatever. As I managed social events without alcohol, my confidence grew and I began to believe that I could manage life without it.

Not only have I managed life without but, in fact, life is so much better without. That low grade, constant thought and worry about alcohol has vanished. All the anxiety, embarrassment and despair as a result of my alcohol use is gone. It is doable. People find different paths to abstinence work for them. I used a patchwork of this website, podcasts like The Bubble Hour, read lots of books, journaled, exercises etc I tried quitting and moderating a few times and just found it wasn’t possible for me anymore. Then I kept adding supports until I found enough. Posting on this website regularly was a huge help too.

Keep at it and good luck. It is life changing in the most wonderful way! It was four years for me in June.  Lynn123 and I started out around the same time. Congratulations Lynn on your four year. Great stuff!!
