Welcome Slash!

Binge drinking is a common problem in colleges. As it is so common many young people think, "it's not a big deal." The reality is binge drinking is dangerous and can create long term health problems. The fact that you want to take control of this is great. Are you planning on abstaining completely or moderating?

It has been a few days since you last posted. How are you feeling now?

Welcome Slash!  It sounds like you have a wonderful reason to quit drinking. College can involve lots of drinking but there are those who don't drink as well.  Perhaps you could spend some time away from drinking events at the fraternity at the beginning to develop some confidence with saying "no thanks" to drinks.  Spend time developing non-drinking past times with your girlfriend. Love can be a powerful motivator and so can be a change for the positive for your own sake.  Good luck!

Hello, today im deciding to change my life for the better and stop drinking. This is going to be a very difficult task for me because im a college student, i am in a fraternity and both of my parents are alcoholics. Also, almost all of my friends drink. I have a very hard time when it comes to saying no during nights were there are parties or events that cause people to drink. I also have a huge fear of missing out on memories that happen while drinking with my friends.

My main reason for making this decision to change is that the girl i love gave me an ultimatum, either i stop drinking or i lose her. i did not think that my drinking was a problem and that is was normal for college kids to have some fun and indulge in some drinking. however after looking at some of the information on this website i realized that i do have a problem and there will be many negative consequences as a result so i am here today to change my life.
