Yesterday was one of best days of my life. It was my one 1 year medallion. Had 8 or so family members come, most would not have attended my funeral last year this time. Also there was about 50 recovering Alcoholics there. People last year I didn't know at all. A great meeting, awesome lunch, will go done as one of the greatest days of my life.
Thanks to all of you here, ALC has helped me along so much. One of my many tools.

Sharing is how it works. We all have our own struggles, otherwise we would not be here.
I hope to help another stay sober today because helping others helps me get through another day sober.

Well done jakelad! You are a true inspiration to us all. I know you've traveled a very difficult path to get here. I'm sure many will read your story and hopefully change their ways before enduring what you have.

I can only shake my head in wonderment as to how such a seemingly innocuous substance can be the catalyst in destroying so many lives.  I too am forever grateful that I took the advise of the good people here, toughed it out and am broke free of the shackles.

Life is simply better when free of the poison that is alcohol.

1 year ago today was my last drunk. I didn't care if I lived or died, death seemed to be the best option actually. Was at a meeting yesterday and new coming was shaking so bad, his first meeting. Tears came out and he left with a little hope. This man has no idea how much he helped me, I never want to go back. The help I have received from this website has played a huge roll in the last year. Thanks you.

You are right. We got to be beaten to the corner otherwise we will not surrender. I remember going to India on vacation and there was a celebrity hosting a sunday program to bring awareness into various conditions/situations. And that particular day it was about alcoholism. There were several of them narrating their stories. A father shared how he lost his teenage kid due to a fatal car wreck. And they many AAers who had 20, 30 years sobriety shared theirs. They flashed the hotline number all the time for AA. The people were excited that they will be receiving many calls. They did for next few days, unfortunately the calls were from fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters but the person who needs to be calling never called.

You will do good. Have fun telling the story.

Thanks for the congrats. Will let everyone know how it goes tonight.
My message will be of defeat how King Alcohol beat me so bad that I asked for help. Not only did I ask but I was beaten so bad that I humbly accepted the help that was freely given.
I know a drink is only an arm length away. There is an LCBO next to my office right now. Could drink at any time. BUT I know one drink and I would be right back to where I was within a week. I do not fear much but alcohol makes me shiver in fear.
