Thank you Kez. Your thoughts are sincerely appreciated and very motivating. I know one thing for sure....regardless of the number tries, or the depth of the problem, we can all resolve and recover ourselves and a better way living.

Keep focused Kez! Life is going to get a lot better as you progress past this obstacle.

All the best,

Dave

CONGRATULATIONS DAVE!!!!!!!!

I think this goes without saying but you are a rock to this community. Insightful, well-spoken (written?), strong, selfless and an inspiration. You've accomplished something awesome and you should be so proud of who you are.

Thank you Vincenza, you're sentiments, encouragement, and support has been sincerely appreciated over the last year. I just want to say a huge and heartfelt "Thank you!" to all the staff who started and continue to support this very important resource. I don't think you'll ever truly know the difference you have ALL made in enriching the lives of not only those who have come to rely on the support of this community but also their families and friends as well. I know it is supported solely by the staff and I wish there was something more I could do to ensure it's continuity. I can only speak for myself but the positive impact this resource has had on myself and those closest to me has been immense and life-changing and for that I will always be deeply grateful.

All the best Vincenza and the AHC Support Team.

Thanks TS. Very much appreciated. And thank you for what is the perfect mental image of a drinking problem; being locked in a bottle. That's exactly what it is isn't it? Imagine yourself floating listlessly inside a bottom of rum (or wine, etc). You're completely isolated for the outside world. Your vision obscured when you try to see the outside of your prison. You can't hear anything. You're basically pickled (no pun intended...well, sort of). And you feel very detached, and very alone, even though you can see the world going on outside of your bottle. You smell of alcohol and you are slowly saturating yourself to the point of physical and mental damage.  So we need to ask ourselves....is this how we want to live? The support we provide each other here is akin to helping to unscrew that cap and pull ourselves out of that bottle, soaking wet and all. It takes some time to dry out and learn not to jump back into the depths of our previous habit.

Thank you TS. I sincerely hope that imagery resonates with others who are here. It was worth the trip just so we could get to the realization of this truth.

All the best,

Dave

Fantastic Dave!!! You have certainly achieved a milestone. Throughout your own struggle you were always there to encourage others and to draw them back in when you noticed their absence to check on their progress. It is this kind of commitment that I will endeavor to emulate. You are so right that there is a whole world out there to experience and that we totally cheat ourselves (and possibly others) when we choose to stick our head in a bottle.

I truly believe that your recovery is solid and a fabulous inspiration to us all.

Again.....Kudos!

Well friends, it's an interesting day as today marks 1 year since I stopped drinking. I feel particularly positive because  life is so full opportunities to relax and enjoy ourselves and create new experiences when we give ourselves the chance to do so. First off, I want to say a huge and grateful "Thank you" to everyone here for your positive comments and support as I've progressed through this because it has made all the difference for me. It's difficult to resolve a serious problem like alcohol abuse on your own because the very nature of the problem isolates us and keeps us locked in a self-made cell where we become our own guard. It's a huge struggle to release ourselves from this cell and sometimes we put ourselves back in, even after we've tasted the freedom from it but we can never give up. We just have get back at it because it is our choice and ours alone to stay or free ourselves. So often people come and go on the site and I sincerely hope they are not stuck in the cycle of drinking again because it really is no way to live. Too much is lost to this unnecessary habit of abuse. There is one thing I am 100% certain and confident of and that is each one of us has the power to move past this and put it behind them. It takes time and effort but so does all change and new habits right? There is a process to getting past a drinking problem and specific stages we need to get through but once we push past these stages we can put it behind us and rid ourselves of this challenge. And that's exactly what it is...a challenge, not a life sentence. One year goes by pretty quickly and I still have work to do on the process myself but that's just life isn't it? We have to keep moving forward. Let's enjoy the ride and be grateful we're here to experience the opportunity of growth.

All the best,

Dave
