Hello,
And so it begins for me....again. You're so right Lynn123, if we could just embrace how much better we feel AF over the short lived buzz and mellowing effect of alcohol, we'd all be in a better place. However, it is clear that it can be done long term as is evidenced by the many accomplished among us. I'm currently feeling pretty disgusted and annoyed with myself for allowing alcohol to rule me...again....but, I'll get over it and move on. I don't consider alcoholism a disease but more of a compulsion like an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.) That's why in my mind it is so difficult to manage. It's an ever present nemesis that if allowed, will consume your life. But, we are not powerless providing that first drink is not consumed. At least in my case since moderation is out of the question.

Looking forward to healthier days.

Hello Everyone!
I have been reading some of the post from the past few days trying to catch up on everyone.  Congrats to those that are staying with your plan and support is always here for those that are finding their journey difficult.

I am an enjoying an AF night and looking forward to the morning with a clear head.  If I could take this feeling right now and the feeling I will have in the morning and remember it, I would never drink again.  But as we are all aware, when it comes to alcohol, even the memories we make with clear heads are clouded with the mere thought of alcohol.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Zoey, how are you?

Dave, thanks again for being here for all of us!

Hi Sarah,

That is absolutely fantastic! Great work! We really do seem to put the pressure on ourselves don't we? Keep knocking of these 'tests' because you are going to feel SO much better about yourself and life in general. Well done!

Best the regards,

Dave

Hi Vincenza, One party down, one more today. I am still AF. Today is Day 9. Surprisingly, no one even asked me why I wasn't drinking. No one offered me a drink and no one acted strange about it around me. I drank coffee and water all day and while, at times, it was hard, I feel SO good today about it! Hoping I can do the same today and be even more proud tomorrow.... thanks for the check in:-)

Hi everyone,

Hope you're enjoying your weekend and continuing to stay strong to your goals.
Did any of you feel pressured to drink from family members or friends?  If so, how did you handle the situation?

Hi Dave, Thanks so much for taking the time to write that and for the kind words of support. I went out to eat tonight for the first time since stopping and only had water. I feel so good right now and productive. I am worried about the parties tomorrow and Sunday. I do agree that it's way too early in this journey to be able to only have a little alcohol. I don't feel nearly ready for that. I want very much to feel good on Monday instead of defeated. Thanks!!

Hi HopefulSarah,

I like your attitude. It sounds like you know what is intuitively right for yourself but it can be a bit of a crossroads once in the thick of the party atmosphere. It's that fork in the road that makes all the difference and which way that we go. It's going to feel somewhat uncomfortable and awkward at first when not drinking and sometimes an experience of high anxiety. Change always comes with some sort of inertia, whether it's positive or negative but it won't hurt you. So will you feel empowered on Monday or chained to a post, disappointed with the idea that you should of and could have abstained? I've opted for the former rather than the latter and I'm glad I did because it has made all of the difference. We put too much stock and importance on what we "perceive" to be part of the crowd and it's a false reality. If you want to over-come this challenge you need to give yourself space from drinking. It's like going to the gym all week and then eating chocolate cake everyday on the weekend and disregarding your eating plan. It's kind of pointless and all we end up doing is disappointing ourselves and holding ourselves back form achieving our end goal. Eventually we may decide having some indulgence is ok down the road but it's not part of our immediate goal. Does that make sense? Why let the pressure of other people empower them and disempower us? You may not be happiest in the moment of the family get-together but you WILL be happier next week when you roll over to 2 weeks.

Keep the positive momentum and attitude moving forward Sarah! You've had a great week so far. The important thing is that you are happy with your day-to-day choices in this life. It's YOUR life to live, no one else's. Regardless, you did really great this week so well done!

All the best,

Dave
