Hi Drew,

I assume you're in a different time zone form me? I'm in EST. I'm curious about your plan to go AF. Is your plan to cut back then go alcohol free on a specific date?

I am in day two in my mind since I just had a drink. Not my goal but a big step for myself. I am still a little anxious and a touch shaky but I feel a lot better. Thanks for the help

Hi Drew,

Panic attacks can be bloody scary. I was getting high blood pressure readings as well. All back to healthy levels. 3-4 days of heavy drinking is really hard on you, mentally and physically. That was my situation when I stopped and the following days of getting past the hangover\ detox were challenging. Where are you in this process now? (as in how many days?)

All the best,

Dave

It is very familiar reaction my body has. I had terrible scary panic attacks on Mondays after three days of heavy drinking. I was able to not drink (maybe a 3-4 days) for a few weeks and the attacks disappeared along with anxiety and concerning and consistent high BP.
Mentally I am wanting to get this done so physically I can feel good again.

Thanks
Drew

Hi Drew,

I hear you on the physical symptoms, rapid heart rate and anxiety. I found that I had all sorts of irregular heart beats\ racing hearts beats when I was drinking. They completely disappeared after a certain amount of time (I think it was about 2 months because I continued to smoke cigarettes for a month after I stopped drinking). Once I quit smoking all symptoms went away. Same with the anxiety. There were times when I had some pretty good (as in panic) anxiety attacks when I was really hungover and, strangely enough, had one about 2-3 months after stopping the drinking. Again, those are long gone. It's really interesting (and relieving) that these things have gone by the wayside because they were really worrisome when they were happening. Quite amazing and disturbing how we ignore these alarm bells our body sends us in favour of drinking. I'm not sure the drinking really fixes your problem but more likely sustains it by medicating it through consumption.

All the best,

Dave

Hey Dave
Thanks I think a check in post is a great idea. I do not drink at lunch Monday thru Thursday. Other days anytime has been a starting time. I find my during the week problem comes around 4 when I feel like a can drink anything. I also get anxiety and a rapid heart rate and some drinks fixes that. Bad cycle I know but I know if I can get through a few weeks that will go away. Did it about six months ago.
Thanks again

Hi Drew,

It sounds like your starting to make a lot of positive changes and it's important to keep that momentum going. Regarding your question about the frequency of posing, I think you're right to degree. It's likely peoples work schedule/ home life dictates how and when they can log in. I typically log in more than others to check what's going on because I'm at a PC a lot during the day and I'm able to do that. Do you find that you post during the day and often don't receive a response? Do you lunch\ dinner to be triggers? I can understand why they would because they are often when people will start drinking and continue into the evening until they have had enough. Let me know your thoughts on the subject. I'm happy to help if I can. Perhaps starting a "Check in" topic may help more of those in the same position. It seems like a great idea because it could allow people to begin to identify what are the triggers and motivators for drinking they may not be aware of and then resolve them.

All the best,

Dave

Good job zoey. That I'm sure was a very easy excuse situation in which you said no. I wanted to let you know it gave me some inspiration. I did better last night as far as volume but didn't get my goal. So I just trashed every ounce of alcohol in the house. We will see how that goes but I know if its here I'm drinking it.

Thank you

Hey
I wanted to thank everyone for their help and support. I have at times done better and my outlook and desires seem to be changing for the better. I wanted to ask if anyone knows a site that you can get quicker help or discussion. I find myself motivated by all your support but this is a daily yet more of a breakfast lunch dinner type of problem. I feel if I go four five hours with no conversation I fail.
If anyone wants to check in on each other in the morning then lunch time the dinner time I am in.

Thanks so much

Hi Zoey,

Glad your back. I hope the camping trip was lots of fun. You're making great progress and what you said is SO significant......"I choose...".  Like Lynn, you're finding your way at your own pace and you're doing a great job. Stay focused and keep looking forward on a positive future.

All the best,

Dave
