Hi Dave848,
It's going well thanks, although I've been eating a little more than I should! It's great to wake up without anxiety or embarrassment though.

Hi Mouse,

How is the weekend going for you? I remember my first weekend was, at times, quite a mental battle, but it gets a lot better quickly. You just need to stick with it

Cheers

Dave

Hi Lynn I have tried the controlled drinking so many times and with good intentions would start of great and eventually (actually not very long) I would fall into the old trap of where one drink is too many and 100 drinks was never enough. Good luck with your decision,

I have come to the realization that I am in the same boat.   I want to drink and enjoy the way I once did.  I am almost 50 and have always been very strict with diet and working out.  Alcohol never seemed to have an effect on my weight but because of my biology background know that it is hindering the effects of working out.  I have always been able to drink and do what I wanted the next day, in the past year things have changed.  I feel no motivation to do anything.  I go to work and do the things I need to do but no extra desire is there.

The fear of cutting out alcohol for good is frightful.  I normally drink everyday but there have tried to give up drinking for a few nights for the last few weeks.  The actual "thought" of not drinking seems harder to deal with than the night of not drinking.  Is it possible to only drink on the weekends like so many people do?????

Hi Ashley, thanks for your support. I came because I don't want to feel lonely, embarrased about my actions, or out of control ever again. I'm in my mid thirties, yet keep chasing the dream of when I was younger and drinking felt good. I think that I have now realised that those feelings won't  be coming back and my habits are the cause of all of the negative feelings in my life, which is otherwise great. If I could stop drinking, I would be blessed with a wonderful life.

Welcome Cub,

Failing just means you are trying and you still have a bit more to learn. Failing while quiting is actually part of the process. Failing is how we grow. I hope you can lose this fear because fear of failure can really hold you back.

What motivated you to come here today?

Welcome Cub. I read your blog and I can relate to what you posted there. Until I entered the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, I never could tell whats wrong with me. Later hearing others share and reading the book Alcoholics Anonymous, I could see why certain people cannot keep from drinking.

Our mind have developed a peculiar mental twist around alcohol. The mind always tricks us into believing that this time its going to be different. Not mater what, I am going to drink just 2 drinks. Then we succumb to that thought and take that drink. But, what happens after that is, there is something metabolically different and that leads to physical craving. We end up drinking more than what we originally planned for.

In my life, I would plan for six packs for the weekend, but end up drinking 24 pack or more. I was always off. I had to make several trips back to the package store or gas station. What was more frustrating was Sundays, there was no liquor sale, would end up going to the bar Sunday afternoons because the craving was so compelling. Then I would say, next week I should plan well.

I have tried to stop drinking before, but it has never worked. I'm going to try my hardest this time, but can't quite get over my fear of failiure. I hope I can do it this time.
