Hi Johnnyboy,

I quit 4 1/2 months ago and I can remember the first week was a challenge for sure. You're on the right track so keep going. It seems like a big adjustment at first but it will get a lot easier. Stay focused and plan out what you'll be doing ahead of time and mentally rehearse saying "no thanks". If you feel like having a drink, drink something like a glass of ice water with a slice of lemon. Often I found I was actually just thirsty and not really craving alcohol. Plus, it's good for cleansing your liver. Also, if you've been drinking pretty heavily for a while your vitamin deleted, even if you take vitamin so load up on your B vitamins in particular. It gets a lot easier so stick with it. You're doing great. It'll be 5 months soon and I don't even think about it now. If I can do so can you. Great work! Keep it up.

Best regards,

Dave

Hi vincenza, I found that walking helped and when I was really bad I even cleaned out the kitchen cupboards, anything to keep busy. On the first night I used alcohol free beer but then decided not to make a habit but it did help with the strong urges. For the weekend I don't know, I am takin one day at a time. I am interested in meditation and I am focusing on developing with it I also love being outdoors so I'm sure I will find something to keep busy! J

Johnnyboy,

well done.  the first 3 days are critical any you did it.  good for you.  The climbing the walls will ease after a while.

Take care,

Hi Johnnyboy,

You can do this - take it one day at a time.  What strategies have you found helpful the past 2 days?
What are your strategies for when the weekend comes and you have more free time?

Hi All,

Have been AF for 3 full days, doesn't sound a lot but it is a great achievement for me.

Not a heavy drinker to the degree that I would get full on withdrawal, but my average daily amount has been the same for many years.

First 2 days I was climbing the walls, back in work today been absolutely fine, I know I have a long way to go and it's going to be a long time until the urges stop but I found the first 2 days were the worst, if I can get past that then I'm sure anyone can.

J
