You may visit Al-anon, its for friends and family members who has a close person with alcoholics symptoms. You may find their web-site at http://www.al-anon.org/home.
Thank you for posting. Typically the members here are the ones directly dealing with problem drinking. But there certainly is lots of information here on problem drinking that you can read up on. This may help you better understand how this effects people and how to be a good support system for family members in need. Feel free to direct your husband and daughter here as well if they would like support.
Glad you have found us. Have you talked to a doctor about what you have been going through? A doctor might be helpful for you especially if you have any trouble with withdrawal. Please read the Education section for more information on withdrawal. The program will also give you more information on what to expect, and other helpful tips.
Aside from the medication have you looked into other treatment for OCD, anxiety and depression? We have two programs that you might want to look into. www.paniccenter.net and www.depressioncenter.net. If you are interested I suggest working on one program at a time. It is common for people with anxiety or depression to self medicate with alcohol. Treating the underlying conditions will likely make it easier for you to let go of alcohol.
Have you talked to your husband about this? What are his thoughts? Have you thought about how you would like to include him in this process?
you ask where do you start. You have already started. One of the most difficult steps is recognising where you really are and then reaching out for help. In fact I would say you have completed the first two steps of a journey. Perhaps the next question is where do you go from here.
This is a good site. There are a lot of people here at various stages of simply wnating to change ith their own drinking habits. I would say get to know the site, read the various blogs etc. All journeys are made up of a series of little steps, I would say that is your next step.
I was asked by my shrink to seek a spiritual solution and I did by going to AA seven years ago and learned about alcoholism as a fatal progressive disease. Left un-controlled, I will either die an alcoholics death or be committed to a mental asylum. Working the 12 steps as given me strength to lead a life without any mind altering substance in my body. Hope you see a spiritual solution too.
