Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

Happy! Happy! Birthday! Camiol!
Make your cake runneth over with icing!!!! I pray that this will be the beginning of your best year ever! You seem to be in a very good place.
Spritzers work wll don't they/ I drank at home with my husband last night. I drank 3 glasses of wine watered down continuously with ice. It really spreads out the amount of wine that you drink because you just keep adding ice to the same glass. It works well for me. It lasted for about 4 1/2 hours. So that was good. I figured that way I could drink with him but not overdo. No drinking tonight though. Tomorrow for Super Bowl I will drink wine but proably only 3 glasses again. I have set my maximum limit for good at 4 glasses of wine. If I go past that, then I will have to quit moderating and just quit drinking. I hope I can stick to this plan forever. I only want to drink 2 times per week. So far so good!
Anyway, I hope that everyone is well and safe and having a good week end.

Happy Birthday Camiol!

I wish you a healthy and successful year as you pursue your dreams & goals.
If need be this evening, practice some deep breathing exercises - it is simple and so effective
in stressful situations as well as delaying or distracting yourself from cravings.

Enjoy your day tomorrow!

Hi all....so last night we went for my birthday celebration dinner and guess what?  I was the one that didn't get drunk..lol.  I had one spritzer here at home before we went to the restaurant, then had two more spritzers there and a dirty martini.  We were at the restaurant almost 3 hours.  I was pretty pleased with myself.

Tomorrow is my 47th birthday...not thrilled with getting older but it's better than pushing up daisies..lol.  Omg do any of your children have a friend that is REALLY annoying?  My daughters BF is so bloody annoying and tonight she's spending the night.  She is the most needy, in your face kind of kid. I know it's not nice to feel this way since she is only 9, but holy man she drives me nuts.

Well anyway I hope everyone is doing great, I will check in again tomorrow.

Hey PJ!
Don't worry, everything is fine. It is funny that I have recently learned a whole new method of communicating with my son. Part of it does involve not nagging. Now, turns out he was sick last night. He couldn't work today and I took him some meds and soup over. He was running a fever with a sinus infection. So, when he said he was sick last night and I just assumed he was backing out of the meeting, I was wrong. He has been like a totally different person the past few months. We have had a rocky relationship for a while, but now he says he is working on doing better and it shows. He  has smoked a good bit of pot in the past and he says he has stopped that. He seems to be alot more clear headed and appreciative. It is a good place to be in right now. Of course, my not drinking has probably decreased my anxiety about things and I am able to relate to him better. Anyway, thanks for all of your advice.
One side effect of not drinking is that I am more alert at night time and have to find things to do. Drinking makes me tired and I just like to sit at night and read. Now, I find myself trying to find  things to do. It is too cold to be outside other than walking my dog.  My husband says I am too hyper. Of course he is drinking a couple of glasses of wine so he is mellow. My running partner is kind of getting sick of my "not drinking" stories. I mentioned how good I feel from not drinking and she said "I know.............you've told me!" So I guess it is time to cut back on talking about it and just feel good!
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for being here.

Saddie,
No No,
My nagging falls completely different then the nagging you may be thinking.  I don't want to hold any responsibility for how you communicate to your son.  I don't like how my family approaches things,  I think it would be nice to ask your son how he is feeling.

I'm a son, and not a parent, and don't plan on being one anytime soon, so my statements fall completely on the child side, and could be potentially be bias.  I'm not sure.

Hi MOGAS,
Well even though he agreed to go, my son did not go with me tonight. Some disappointment but he has made several positive steps lately, so  I refuse to be upset by it. He texted me that he was sick and didn't feel like he should go. All I said, was "okey dokey" and I plan to leave it at that. Learning from PJ, I will not nag him about it. In fact, I won't mention it again unless he asks. So there! Anyway, it was my first live support Moderation Meeting. It was like this site, different people at different places trying to find the best way to handle alcohol. I enjoyed it and will go back. One thing that several people agreed upon is that keeping a daily diary of your drinking helps. I have found that to be true for me too. When I make that entry I don't want to feel disappointed in myself.  But, it I do overdo it, I will be able to look back and see all the times that I made good choices.
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! Coming to this site takes up some of my time that I used to would have spent drinking. So thanks for being here!

So happy to see some new posts form all of you.

Marylizy as always I'm very happy for you and it's great that you and the new beau are having a nice time together.

Saddie your slogan is awesome and I can certainly apply it to my life.  You sound like such an upbeat, happy person, very much like our friend Turquoise who posts in here.  It's refreshing to see the positivity that you bring to the site.

Ashleyi think I just need to keep reminding myself that I do not ever want to black out again and that I feel so much better when I am not hungover or feeling guilty about over indulging.  When I put my mind to it, I do have control.

Best of luck Saddie, very cool he has agreed to go with you.  I would prefer my folks work as a unit with me, in my down times, but they didn't seem to get it.  That's okay.  You guys will do great.

Hi Everyone! Well, I asked my son if he wanted to attend the Moderation group tonight and he agreed! Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Since I haven't been to the meeting before we will see how it goes. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers tonight. PJ and Ashley thanks for your support! Every bit of input helps me to think things out.
I now have been moderating for 21 days and have only drank three times, for a total of ten drinks during that time. I swear being on this site and doing my diary entry has helped tons! I am going to tell my son about the site and then I will have to quit writing about him on this site!! So the news will be about me (boring).
I know Superbowl is coming up and I am already planning my strategies for that. I will take one bottle of wine and not drink anything else. If someone drinks some of my wine then that is that much less for me. Since I am going to drink on Sunday I will not drink on Friday. I will drink on Sat. Doesn't this sound like a huge bunch of planning and strategy? But, that is the way I have to do it. I have to think before I drink! Hey, I just made that up and it sounds pretty good doesn't it? That may become my new motto, THINK BEFORE YOU DRINK!  Another good thing about moderation is weight loss! I had about 5 pounds on that I wanted to get off and they are gone. Another good motto? Shrinking by not drinking!? Okay, I better stop while I am ahead!
Everyone take care and I will let you know how it goes tonight.
Thanks for all the support
Saddie
